The announcement comes after an open, competitive, and comprehensive nationwide search. The search process began this past summer and the application process produced a diverse and talented group of qualified applicants. The finalists in alphabetical order are: Dr. Vladimir "Alex" Appeaning, Ph.D., assistant vice president for policy, Louisiana Community and Technical College System, LA; Dr. Helen Benjamin, Ph.D., chancellor, Contra Costa Community College District, CA; Julie Foster, J.D., campus president, Elkhart County Campus of Ivy Tech Community College, IN; Dr. Michael Heindl, J.D., Ph.D., executive vice president, administration and finance, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, MS; and Dr. Larissa Littleton-Steib, Ph.D., vice chancellor, workforce development and technical education, Delgado Community College, LA. "Several months ago, our board set out to find a chancellor who would be the best fit for BRCC", said LCTCS Board Supervisor and Personnel Committee Chairman Mickey Murphy. "The BRCC search attracted the most competitive candidate pool we have seen in many years and the quality of candidates in this search was exceptional. I believe we have identified a tremendously astute group of experienced leaders. I encourage and invite the entire Baton Rouge community to engage in the campus forums."

BATON ROUGE, La - Today, the Louisiana Community and Technical CollegeSystem is pleased to announce the finalists for the position of chancellor of BatonRouge Community College (BRCC). Each finalist will interview with the Baton Rouge Community College ChancellorSearch Committee early next week. The finalists will also participate in aseparate series of public forums with students, faculty and staff, and communitymembers. The college community is strongly encouraged to attend the forumswhich will take place Monday, November 14 and Tuesday, November 15, at theBaton Rouge Community College Mid-City Campus, 201 Community College Drive.

Once confirmed, the entire public forum schedule including times and locationswill be released.

Finalists in alphabetical order:

Dr. Vladimir "Alex" Appeaning

Dr. Appeaning has 20 years of public service ranging fromassistant vice president for policy (LCTCS); vice president forstudent affairs and enrollment management (LangstonUniversity); associate vice president in academic affairs,director of community relations, and public administrationfaculty (Grambling State University); assistant research director(Southern University); and deputy secretary of the LouisianaDepartment of Environmental Quality (LDEQ). Dr. Appeaningsubscribes to the transformative power of education andbelieves that educational attainment is the great economic equalizer. Dr.Appeaning is student-focused, faculty and staff engaged, community-centered,inclusive, SACS-COC proficient, data-driven, outcomes-based, and responsive toBRCC's priorities to meet the transfer and workforce goals of students andemployers of the Capital Region.

Dr. Helen Benjamin

Helen Benjamin is in her 12th year as Chancellor of the ContraCosta Community College District (District) and her 27th yearas an employee of the District. She began her career at theDistrict in 1990 when she joined Los Medanos College as Deanof Language Arts and Humanistic Studies and RelatedOccupations, and has held progressively higher level positionsincluding District Vice Chancellor, Educational Programs andServices, interim President of Los Medanos College andPresident of Contra Costa College.

Julie Foster, JD, is currently the Campus President for the ElkhartCounty Campus of Ivy Tech Community College, Indiana. Prior toher employment at Ivy Tech, Foster has over 20 years ofexperience as a university administrator at a variety ofinstitutions, and as a practicing attorney in labor, employment,and education law at Seyfarth Shaw in Chicago and Squire PattonBoggs in Cleveland.

Dr. Heindl serves as the Executive Vice President ofAdministration and Finance for Mississippi Gulf Coast CommunityCollege which is the second largest community college inMississippi. He earned an A. A., a B. S. in Psychology, a JurisDoctor, and a Ph. D. in Community College Leadership. Forfifteen years he has been involved with many facets of highereducation leadership: he has been a dean of students for twocolleges, a district registrar for the largest community college inMississippi, a Program Specialist for Career and Technical Education for theMississippi Community College Board, an adjunct professor at the senior andcommunity college levels, and Vice President of the Jackson County Campus ofMississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Dr. Larissa Littleton-Steib currently serves as the Vice Chancellorfor Workforce Development and Technical Education at DelgadoCommunity College. She is a native of Jefferson Parish and hasover 20 years of experience in education. Larissa began hercareer as a Special Education Teacher in the Jefferson ParishPublic School System. Previously, Dr. Littleton-Steib worked inNew Orleans Public Schools as the Executive Director for ExternalGrants. During her career at Delgado, she has held various positions such as,Executive Dean of West Bank Campus and Dean of the Technical Division,Executive Assistant to the Chancellor and Equal Access Equal Opportunity Officer,Executive Director of Community and Economic Development and instructor andjob developer.
