Compound Verbs and Compound Subjects Every sentence contains a verb and a subject. A VERB EXPRESS ACTION OR STATE OF BEING. A SUBJECT REPRESENTS SOMEONE OR SOMETHING. You can pair one subject with many verbs. Examples: The class cheered and clapped once the examination ended. Compound verb: cheered, clapped The spy sneaked into the CEO's office and stole the file. Compound verb: sneaked, stole Suzy could not believe the bad news and cried loudly. Compound verb: could not believe, cried You can also join two or more subjects to a single verb.
