  • We offer three unique composite solutions; our experienced Project Engineers can help select the right one for you.

This thin-walled medical equipment enclosure was reinforced with fiberglass to increase impact strength.

    This customer was pleased with

the speed of assembly and the

    excellent fit of all enclosures.

VARTM is often used for mass

    transit components like the

    windshield panel for this

    commuter bus.

CompositeCast, offered only by Solid Concepts, was developed over a two year period that included testing at six early beta sites.

Composite sheet material (fiberglass, graphite, Kevlar, etc.) is positioned in a precision Platinum Silicon mold. A proprietary fill method is used to fill

the mold cavity along with the sheet material with our AFP (Advanced Formula Polymers). The result is a very tough and stiff cast part with B-side

detail captured. These parts can be delivered within two weeks.

Hand Lay-up FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) is a well established technology. Accurate tough parts are fabricated by applying successive layers of resin (epoxy or polyester) and composite sheet material. Solid Concepts offers the only UL 94 V-0 epoxy material developed for the medical industry and suitable for large, fire retardant, cosmetic panel construction. Precise attachment of all B-side hardware is the key to assembly success. This is accomplished with years of experience in fixtures and tooling.

VARTM (Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding) is an established closed-mold injection process

with a growing selection of available polymers. VARTM is growing in popularity because of the

high quality provided at a low piece price.

Very fast processing of complex parts and panels without hard tooling

    Excellent A and B-Side detail

Composite-like performance (i.e., high flex modulus, high impact strength)

    Short mold life: ~25 shots

    Production rate: 2 or 3/day

Not as accurate as Hand Lay-up FRP or VARTM

Mold life about 50 to 150 parts

    Faster to market versus VARTM

Mold can be modified for certain changes

    Very strong and accurate

    Labor cost is higher

    Production rate: 1 per day

    True production process

    Production rate: 7 to 12/day

    Composite Performance

Consistant repeatable results (consistant wall thickness)

    Smooth B-Side

Mold life 500 to 4,000 parts

Limited B-Side detail(we have techniques to improve this)

Mold Cost high (need A and B side)

Lead time longer for first article
