backed blue paper covered boards, yellow endpapers (lacks
front free endpaper).

Autograph letter signed, from Oregon missionary Henry Bridgeman Brewer to his parents, describing the attempted human sacrifice of a young slave by local Indians and the child's rescue by a fellow missionary, as well as the activities of the missionaries.
Oregon Territory, Columbia River. Sept. 27 to October 3,
1844. [4]pp. manuscript letter on a folded sheet, addressed
and postmarked on a blank portion of the fourth page. Old
folds. A few stains. Some small closed splits along folds,
longer split along bottom fold of second leaf, with no loss of
text. Overall very good.
Fantastic content letter from Oregon Territory in 1844.

drawings, on J. Whatman wove paper watermarked 1829,
interleaved with blanks. The first watercolour, within an
elaborate border. Contemporary dark purple straight
grained morocco, covers bordered in gilt and blind with a
central device in gilt, spine wide flat bands in four
compartments, tooled in gilt, Liverpool bookseller's ticket
on the front pastedown (Richard Taylor), gilt edges.
A lovely album of pre-Opium Wars Chinese export
watercolors of the highest quality.

Addressed in manuscript on the fourth page "au General en
chef Rochambeau, Capitaine General de l'Ile St. Domingue."
One-inch tear in center vertical fold (with some small tape
repairs), where wax seal had been affixed, not affecting any
text. Very good.
Commissioner Laussat writes of the impending transfer of
Louisiana to the United States.

ship on the Alaskan Northwest Coast in the 1820s: a primary

Expedition in the Kohat Pass, recorded by an eyewitness in
