QUESTION: Who are you????? What words would you use to describe yourself?
STATUS: A status is a socially defined position in a group or society characterized by certain expectations, rights and duties.
STATUS SET: is made up of all the statuses that a person occupies at a given time.

Ascribed Vs. Achieved Status ASCRIBED STATUS: is a social position
conferred at birth or received involuntarily later in life, based on attributes over which the individual has little or no control.
Can we think of any examples???
ACHIEVED STATUS: is a social position a person assumes voluntarily as a result of personal choice, merit, or direct effort.
Can you think of any examples?
Refer to the chart you made of your status set, and shade in the status’ that you have ACHIEVED.
IN YOUR TEXTBOOK… Take notes on the following topics:
Master Status Status Symbols
In Groups… Find advertisements for status symbols and
do an analysis of what those symbols are supposed to convey about their owners.
Be sure to look at status symbols across social classes rather than looking only at symbols of wealth and power.
