The Definitions

Page 7: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Agility

The ability to change the position of the body quickly and to control the movement of the whole body easily.

Page 8: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Balance

The ability to retain the centre of mass (gravity) of the body above the base of support.

Page 9: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Body Composition

The proportion of body weight that is fat, muscle and bone, normally measured as a percentage.

Page 10: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Cardiovascular Fitness

The ability to exercise the entire body for long periods of time. This is dependent on the fitness of the heart, blood and blood vessels.

Page 11: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Co-Ordination

The ability to perform complex moves using two or more body parts together.

Page 12: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Endurance

The ability to keep working over a period of time without tiring or losing skill.

Page 13: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Fitness

The ability to meet the demands of the environment.

Page 14: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Flexibility

The joint’s ability to move to their full range.

Page 15: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Health

A state of complete social, mental and physical well-being.

Page 16: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Muscular Endurance

The ability to use voluntary muscles over long periods of time without getting tired.

Page 17: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Muscular Strength

The amount of force a muscle can exert against a resistance in one attempt.

Page 18: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Posture

The way the muscles hold the body when still or in motion.

Page 19: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Power

The ability to complete strength performance quickly. Power = strength x speed

Page 20: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Reaction Time

The time between the presentation of a stimulus and the onset of the movement.

Page 21: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Somatotype

Particular body type and shape of an individual.Three types are: ectomorph (tall and skinny),

mesomorph (well built and muscle) endomorph (round and fatter)

Page 22: Components of Fitness Definitions You need to know these!

Speed

The rate at which an individual is able to perform a movement or cover a distance in a period of time.
