Microsoft Lync Performance Monitor ensures the success of your Microsoft Lync deployment through comprehensive performance monitoring.
Microsoft Lync Performance Monitor lets you quickly drill down to the source of any problem, either in your application or network from the same dashboard. Start monitoring the server roles of your Lync Server: Front End, Mediation, and Edge to ensure Lync performance. Microsoft Lync Performance Monitor contains out of the box reports so you can plan improvements, justify IT investments, and report up to management or business leaders.
It is a comprehensive tool that allows IT managers to:
• Quickly identify root causes of MS Lync performance problems• Receive alerts about potential problems before impact to the user• Determine if problems are application, server, or network related• Customize application profiles for specific conditions and environments
MS Lync Performance Monitor models all IT dependencies impacting the application’s availability and performance, including the dependencies on:
• Front End, Edge, and Mediation Servers• SQL Server• Supporting applications like Active Directory• Its network infrastructure
MONITORING MICROSOFT LYNCApplication ProfilesProfiles define a set of components for a type of application with default monitoring parameters. Application profiles specify how to monitor an application by tracking the application’s components and processes, their expected values, and the actions to take automatically when the application or a monitored component exceeds a threshold or changes state. MS Lync Performance Monitor includes certified application profiles for many common parts of a Lync implementation including: MS Lync Front End, Edge, and Mediation Servers, IIS, SQL Server, Active Directory, and Exchange.
Customize these profiles to meet your needs or build your own profiles. Leverage existing profiles as templates to match profiles to business requirements. Customize thresholds on a per-instance basis to reflect real-life differences in acceptable server loads and application performance.
Rapidly detect and resolve problems with Lync, supporting applications, and the network.
Ensure that Lync performance and availability meet or exceed SLAs.
Improve user satisfaction and reduce help desk calls.
Increase IT staff productivity with easy problem pinpointing.
MICROSOFT LYNC PERFORMANCE MONITOR FEATURESComponentsA component is any single data point monitored by MS Lync Performance Monitor. Active components regularly poll services and processes to determine their state — Up/Down/Warning/Maintenance/Unknown. Thresholds can be assigned to performance components to initiate user-defined Action Policies.
Regularly polled components:
Complex ApplicationsMS Lync is dependent on the performance of Front End, Edge, and Mediation Servers as well as SQL Server databases, IIS, and other applications like Active Directory. If a SQL Server instance is “Down,” it stands to reason the applications it supports are “Down” as well. MS Lync Performance Monitor provides the unique ability to specify inter-application dependencies. With Complex Applications, a change of state in a supporting application will result in a corresponding change of state in a dependent application. However, in a high availability configuration, just one “Down” SQL Server instance will simply put the rest of the dependent components in a “Warning” state.
Action PoliciesDefine a multi-step action path for when a monitored component or application changes state. There are two types of actions: remediation and informational. Remediation policies can write event logs, run scripts (ie. Reboot), while informational actions notify users of the change. MS Lync Monitor allows creation of action policies with multiple actions. Active and PowerShell scripting provide for a wide-range of actions.
ReportingMS Lync Performance Monitor features powerful reporting that quickly isolates application availability and performance problems. Drill-down capabilities start at a high level view that includes all the applications. View performance measurements at the application instance and component level. Reports provide:
• SLA Reporting
• Current and Historical Status reports
• Instance and Component Summary reports
• State Change, Action, and Resolved Items logs
Bandwidth & Network MonitoringMS Lync Performance Monitor is built on WhatsUp Gold’s network performance and availability monitoring software. Monitor your network infrastructure in concert with your applications to immediately determine the root cause of a problem anywhere in your environment. Personalized dashboards create powerful side-by-side views of application, system, and network performance metrics to help isolate and resolve application performance bottlenecks before they impact users and critical business operations.
