② PURPOSE so (that)
③ REASON because, as, since
④ RESULT so … that, such … that
⑤ When a complex clause begins a sentence, we use a comma to separate the two clauses.
He still did the bungee jumping ALTHOUGH he was scared.
ALTHOUGH he was scared, he still did the bungee jump.
IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT he had been studying a lot, he failed the exam.
She didn’t know why her friend was upset, SO she decided to ask her.
SINCE her friends had forgotten her birthday, she decided not to invite them.
It was SUCH a beautiful city THAT they decided to stay one more night.
