Bund Capacity.The bund capacity needs to be a minimum of 110% of the volume of the largest container you are storing or 25% of the combined total volume of containers stored – whichever is the largest figure.

Examples:Storing 1 x 1000 litre tank – bund must be a minimum of 110% of 1000 litres = 1100 litres.Storing 20 x 210 litre drums – 110% of largest container is 231 litres, 25% of total volume stored is 1050 litres – bund needs to be minimum 1050 litres.

Bund Outlet.Bund outlets are not recommended as there is a risk that they may be damaged accidentally of left open thereby rendering the bund ineffective.

Plastic or Steel Bund.Plastic bunds are suitable for corrosives. Steel bunds are suitable for flammables.As a general rule, if you chemical is delivered in a plastic container or drum, it should be stored on a plastic bund or spill pallet.

Segregation.Non compatible chemicals should not be stored together on the same bund. Refer to the material safety data sheet(MSDS) for your chemicals and/or talk to your chemical supplier if you are unsure of compatibility.

Bund Testing.It is recommended that bunds be tested for liquid tightness at least every three years.

Should your bunds fail the integrity test, we will highlight this to you and • make recommendations for repairs.

Bund refurbishment:
