Contrast of unique buildings.
There are a lot of unique buildings around the world. The places I choose
to contrasting are Sheraton Huzhou Hot Spring Resort which located in China
and Sydney Opera House which located in Australia. There will be several contrast
to be listed out of these two buildings such as the architects who designed them, the
unique parts, materials used to build, purpose to build and ultimately the historical
background.
First and foremost, Sheraton is a very well-known hotel all around the world,
but in Huzhou, China, is design by Ma Yansong, from Beijing. It is called as
“Horseshoe Hotel” and “Doughnut Hotel”. Why is it so unique? This building is a ring
shaped which made up of layers concept. The inspiration of the shape he designed
is by traditional bridges represented in ancient Chinese paintings. Today, this
building is stated as a 4 and a half stars hotel. There is 27 storey and consists of 321
rooms, 37 villas, 40 suites, a presidential suite, parking facilities, fitness & we illness
centre, 4 restaurants, a cafe, a children's pool and rooms with terrace. This property
is is more than 100 meters high and 116 meters wide, covering an area of 75 acres
with a total floor area of 95,000 square meters.
Secondly, the ring clearly poses a major challenge for structural design.
Moreover, high capacity, light weight and excellent resistance to earthquakes are
also under consideration. Other than that, there is 27 storey and consists of 321
rooms, 37 villas, 40 suites, a presidential suite, parking facilities, fitness & we illness
centre, 4 restaurants, a cafe, a children's pool and rooms with terrace. This property
is more than 100 meters high and 116 meters wide, covering an area of 75 acres
with a total floor area of 95,000 square meters. One of the material used for the
lobby of this building is using 20,000 of Swarovski crystals to create a wave series of
lights.
On the other hand, for the Sydney Opera House in Australia, it was designed
by a very young architect named, Denmark’s Jorn Utzon. He died in Copenhagen in
November 2008 aged 90. He was proud of himself because he gave Australia a
tough challenge. This building is a graceful piece of urban sculpture in patterned
tiles, glistening in sunlight and invitingly aglow at night. The roofs is a shell shaped
set. Each shell is composed of pre-cast rib segments and they are also faced in
glazed off-white tiles.
Furthermore, it consist of Concert Hall, Joan Sutherland Theatre, Drama
Theatre, Play House, The Studio and Utzon Room. All of these places can fit a total
of 5,738 people in it. There is also other facilities such as houses a recording studio,
cafes, restaurants and bars and retail outlets. Guided tours are available, including a
frequent tour of the front-of-house spaces.
For the historical background of both of the buildings I totally different. The
Sheraton Hotel Huzhou in China was completed at October 2013, which from year
2007 to 2013. It is still a fresh and new building. Compare to Sydney Opera House in
Australia , the construction started at March 1959 and completed at year 1973. It
cost Australia dollar 102 million while Sheraton Hotel Huzhou used 1.5 billion dollars.
Conclusion, we must cherish all the buildings around the world and take a visit
if possible. To me it is a great joy to know how much the building is loved , by
Australians in gerenal and by Sydneysiders in particular. “Jorn Utzon 2003.
