The 6th MICPA-Bursa Malaysia Business Forum 2009 will be held on November 9-10, 2009 at the Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur. The Organising Committee has invited YB Dato’ Mukhriz Tun Mahathir, Deputy Minister (Trade), Ministry of International Trade and Industry, to deliver the Opening Keynote Address and to declare open the Business Forum.

As the new chapter of globalisation presents unprecedented shifts, corporations are finding it increasingly difficult to compete by conventional means. Remaining competitive in the new global landscape requires innovation and corporations must devise new ways to maintain their lead. It also demands an understanding of the new global playing field.

Close linkages of economies as a result of globalisation causes increased competitiveness of industries and products in the new global landscape and this has to be consistently monitored and managed.

Featuring the theme, Competing in the New Global Landscape, the MICPA-Bursa Malaysia Business Forum will provide an interactive platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences on the innovative strategies and measures undertaken to compete in the new global landscape.

MICPA – Malaysia’s Premier Accountancy Body

The Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) was incorporated in 1958 under the Companies Ordinances 1940-1946 to advance the theory and practice of accountancy, as well as to promote the status and interest of the accountancy profession in Malaysia and of its members.

MICPA has been actively involved in the development and promulgation of accounting, financial reporting and auditing standards for Malaysia, which underpin the effective functioning of a market economy. The Institute also sets ethical standards governing members’ professional conduct thereby safeguarding the public interest.

The Institute is also a pioneer for the training of professional accountants in Malaysia. Instituted in 1961, the distinctive feature of the CPA education and training programme is its unique blend of high standards of professional education, practical training and technical excellence. The CPA designation is widely recognised as the premier Number 1 business professional qualification.

CPAs provide a wide range of financial and business advisory services to clients in various sectors of the economy and hold key financial and management positions. Currently, the Institute has a total membership of over 3,000 CPAs and close to 600 students undergoing the CPA training. In 2006, MICPA introduced the Certified Financial Accountant (CFiA) qualification which is intended for accounting graduates who wish to build a career in commerce and industry or the public sector.

MICPA recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) to offer the revised MICPA programme in Malaysia. As a result of this synergistic partnership, future students who embark on the programme will be required to undertake common examinations and upon satisfactory completion, will be eligible for dual membership of ICAA and MICPA. The revised MICPA programme was launched in June 2009.
