Sports Carnival for Primary Schools By Germaine Ng of Sec 3I, Student Editor

26 May 2012 was the day of the Sports Carnival for Primary Schools where close to 100 primary pupils participated in a day of sports and games with our very own sports teams.

This event was organised to raise awareness among primary school students and their parents about our school and our key programmes. As students from Anchor Green Primary School, Compassvale Primary School and Fernvale Primary School streamed in, our students immediately buzzed around to warmly welcome them. Once the young sportsmen were settled, friendly competitions commenced. Piercing squeaking of shoes and the pumping of running feet filled the air that morning, along with occasional shouts of victory and applause. By noon, the games ended. Panting with excitement and fatigue, the various teams waited eagerly for the announcement of the winning schools.

Regardless of the results, the closer ties formed between CVSS and the primary schools in our vicinity already provided sufficient cause for cheer.

By Joanne Lee of Sec 2G, Student Editor

Between 28 to 30 May, Secondary 1 and 2 NT students participated in a memorable 3 Day 2 Night CARE Camp.

The theme of this camp was “Building Positive Relationships” and its objective was to allow students to foster better relationships with one another. Students were challenged to do things outside of their comfort zone. Campers learnt how to work well in a team and various lifeskills such as how to make positive choices through the camp activities. When interviewed, Goh Jun Yi from 2A expressed that the camp was an enriching one. For him, the camp’s highlight was the performance night when participants had to come up with a song, dance or story presentation. All in all, the camp was a good opportunity for the students to showcase their leadership abilities and apply valuable lifeskills.

Reflections from Ryan Tan of Sec 3I.“I want to thank the school for providing me with such an opportunity to venture out into another country and learn about their culture. This trip has really been a great eye-opener for me. I have learnt so much about China and made so many more new friends there. I couldn’t wait to share all the knowledge I gained with my family. On the trip, we bonded even closer together as a school – even celebrating one schoolmate’s birthday there. Our tour guide and tour leader were ever so friendly and helpful. If given a chance, I would definitely go on another overseas trip with the school again. Count me in!”
