Thank you for being a true champion for children in need! We want to make your efforts on behalf of the children we serve together as easy and effective as possible. That’s why we’ve put together this advocacy resource guide. Here you will find everything you need to share Compassion with others — no matter the type or size of your audience, or the occasion.

Do you want creative ideas to explain where sponsorship dollars go? Check out KIT42 on page 7. What about some powerful statistics about the difference child sponsorship makes? Check out the Wydick Research findings (page 6). You can also order child packets to keep on hand, ready to give to potential sponsors (KIT14A). You might also be interested to know that in most cases we can accommodate packet requests for a specific gender, birth date or country.

To order any of the resources in this guide, just go to the online form at compassion.com/newmaterials (have your sponsorship number handy). If you have any questions about resource items, or need suggestions about how to use them, we’re here for you! Just call (800) 336-7535 or email us at [email protected].

Want access to these resources anytime? Go to Compassion.com and log in to “My Account” where you have access to a “My Advocacy” tab. From there you can access the online Resource Order Guide where you can stay up-to-date on all of the available downloadable resources and online tools, as well as sign up to volunteer at local concerts and events!

I hope you are inspired by the many great resources available to you for presenting Compassion. And thank you again for your selfless dedication — as a valued ministry partner, you are making a real and lasting impact in the world, one child at a time.

Sincerely, The Advocate Engagement Team

Compassion Child Sponsorship: Does it Work? (BR165) This 16-page brochure summarizes the key findings from the Wydick Research Report. While it is written with a college crowd in mind, it has broad application.

This independent research study found that children in Compassion’s programs are more likely to (1) stay in school longer, (2) hold salaried, white–collar employment, and (3) become leaders in their churches and communities.

Defeating a pandemic

Compassion found me in the midst of

frustrations of poverty and death. I was poor

and had no hope for tomorrow. Compassion

enhanced my life and [the lives] of my

children. My life has changed after receiving

the nutritious food at the project. We have

a future. My son is getting all the necessary

medical attention. He is in school. Compassion

has strengthened us with hope. God bless

Compassion and sponsors.”

CHRIST-CENTERED We ensure that every child hears the gospel and has the opportunity to trust Jesus. We hope to lead children into a lifestyle of faith and commitment to God.

CHILD-FOCUSED The ministry of Compassion is holistic, ensuring that children develop mentally, physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. We want to enable them to grow into healthy, responsible, and fulfilled Christian adults.

CHURCH-BASED Compassion programs are delivered through the local church, providing stability and enabling long-term relationships. This gives the opportunity for Compassion to share God’s love and extend the loving embrace of a church community.

As the world’s leading Christian child development ministry, Compassion International is committed to eliminating the root causes of poverty for children around the globe and showing them God’s love. We partner with thousands of churches in developing countries all over the world to assist impoverished children. Our success with holistic child development is embodied in our unique distinctives:

Each time Kajal gave

birth to a daughter,

her husband told

her she had given

birth to a burden.

With each

daughter came

the need for a dowry

they would never be able to afford.

Another daughter was simply another expense.

When Kajal discovered she was pregnant again, she knew

another daughter could be the end. Her mother-in-law had

already threatened to find her son a new wife, a move that

would leave Kajal alone with no income and no way to

support her children.

But while Kajal was still pregnant, she heard about

Compassion’s Sasa Vatsalaya Child Survival Program. She

arrived at the center frightened and malnourished.

“She had not been treated well at home. When she came to our center she was underweight and needed counseling and support. After being in the program, she delivered a healthy baby girl,” says Meena, the program coordinator.

Kajal named her daughter Angel. The child who had been

called a burden became a treasure to her family through

the support and education of the Child Survival Program.

Kajal now believes God has a plan for little Angel. Instead

of focusing on an uncertain future and an expensive

dowry, her family now celebrates the smiles and first

steps of 1-year-old Angel.

Providing safe drinking water is just one aspect of Compassion’s holistic child development model that begins in the earliest stages of a child’s development and continues through young adulthood.

This long-term, one-to-one model currently benefits more than 1.4 million children and equips them with the skills they need to become independent adults.

It often takes over four months to pair a child in poverty with a sponsor. Your church can stand in the gap for children while they wait.

compassion.com/Unsponsored

At Compassion International, we believe the church is God’s plan to defend the rights of the poor and needy. For more than 60 years, we’ve had the privilege of witnessing God’s hand on both the children served and the servants in this relational ministry.

As a church leader, you have the opportunity to engage your congregation in a meaningful global mission, working together to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name.
