Choose two characters and compare/contrast them (using one of the outlines I showed you for the comparison/contrast paper).  Discuss any two characters that have similar and different experiences, ideas, or personalities.

In Khaled Hosseini’s novel, The Kite Runner Amir and Hassan are two twelve year old

boys that grow up together in Kabul. both make choices that haunt them for the rest of their

lives.

They are similar in many ways and both have millions of registered users. Myspace and

Facebook both offer its user a host of interactive features. However Myspace and Facebook

are very different in number of features are offered and how they are offered. By discussing

their History, functionality, appearance, design, and ease of use, in this paper I will compare

and discuss both websites in detail.

before the Russian occupation a violent time in Afghanistan’s history.

Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of the monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable, beautifully told story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul.

Raised in the same household and sharing the same wet nurse, Amir and Hassan nonetheless grow up in different worlds: Amir is the son of a prominent and wealthy man, while Hassan , the son of Amir’s father’s servant, is a Hazara, member of a shunned ethnic minority. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them. When the Soviets invade and Amir and his father flee the country for a new life in California, Amir thinks that he has escaped his past. And yet he cannot leave the memory of Hassan behind him. The Kite Runner is a novel about friendship, betrayal, and the price of loyalty. It is about the bonds between fathers and sons, and the power of their lies. Written against a history that has not been told in fiction before, The Kite Runner describes the rich culture and beauty of a land in the process of being destroyed. But with the devastation, Khaled Hosseini also gives us hope: through the novel’s faith in the power of reading and storytelling, and in the possibilities he shows for redemption.

VIII. WORKS CITED.

“I turned and came face to face with Hassan’s slingshot. Has/41-42/san had pulled the wide elastic band all the way back. In the cup was a rock the size of a walnut. Hassan held the slingshot pointed directly at Asse’fs face” (Hosseini 41-42)

“ ‘Please leave us alone, Agha,’ Hassan said in a flat tone. He’d referred to Assef as ‘Agha,’ and I wondered briefly what it must be like to live with such an ingrained sense of one’s place in a hierarchy” (Hosseini 42).

“ There is a God, there has to be, and now I will pray, I will pray that He forgive that I have neglected him all of these years, forgive that I have betrayed, lied, and sinned with impunity only to turn to Him in my hour of need, I pray that He is merciful, benevolent, and gracious as His book says He is” (Hosseini 346).“I bow to the west and kiss the ground and promise that I will do zakat, I will do namaz,…” (Hosseini 346).

“I turned my gaze to our rooftop, found Baba and Rahim Kahn sitting on a bench,…Baba waved. I couldn’t tell if he was waving at me or Hassan” (Hosseini 61).

Eulo“And may God—if He exists, that is—strike me blind if the kit didn’t just drop into his outstretched arms” (Hosseini 55)

“if you make a move, they’ll have to change your nickname…to ‘One-Eyed Assef,’ because I have this rock pointed at your left eye.” (Hosseini 42)

“The book said part of the reason Pashtuns had oppressed the Hazaras was that Pashtuns were Sunni Muslims, while Hazaras were Shi’a” (Hosseini 9)

Alternating Comparison

I. Thesis: Cats and dogs are very popular pets in the United States. They are very similar and can co-exist in many households. However, they are also very different. By discussing their appearance, maintenance requirements, and personalities, In this paper I will compare them and discuss both types of pets in some detail.

II. Appearancea. Cats : four legs, soft fur, long tails, whiskers, etc.b. Dogs : four legs, different kinds of fur, various lengths of tails, etc.

III. Maintenance Requirementsc. Cats : litter boxes, food, water, grooming (also groom

themselves), medical care, Feline Leukemia shots, climbing toysd. Dogs : walks (outside bathroom practices), food, water,

grooming, medical care, distemper and worms, chewy toys

IV. Personalitiese. Cats : Independent, solitary, sensual, self-absorbed, vain, sleep a

lot, like the sun, catnipf. Dogs : Pack-oriented, loyal, can be trained, good for outdoor

activities, protective, alert

V. Conclusion: Cats and dogs are very much alike. People who live with them love them. They are both popular because they both bring joy to their owners and families. Although their appearance and maintenance requirements are similar, they differ most in their personalities. Even so, neither type of pet seems likely to lose its status or popularity any time soon.
