Compare and Contrast : Horror Movies

In two horror films that I have chosen for my compare and contrast essay, the main killers have similarities and differences between each other. By either their past, their killings, or their weapons of choice. This two horror films are similar and different in their own unique way. The two horror movie that I have chosen is “Nightmare of Elm Street” and “Friday the 13th”.

In the horror movie, "A Nightmare On Elm Street", takes place in a town called Elm Street where teenagers are paying the price for actions their parents made, by burning a man to death, when they were young. His face is disfigured from being burned, he wears a red and black sweater, and has razor knives on his hand. His name was Freddy Kreuger, and he would kidnap young children and burn them in a furnace. Although the parents killed him when they found out what he did, his spirit didn't erase and he had the ability to enter the teenagers dreams where he can exact his revenge. He brings them to an old abandoned building in their dream and stabs them with a glove that has razor knives. Unless they escape, which eventually he catches them. Except for one of the teenagers named Nancy Thompson, who manages to escape him every time.

And in the horror movie, “Friday the 13th”, takes place in a camp called Crystal Lake camp where a group of young adults set up tent near the abandoned summer camp where a series of gruesome murders are said to have taken place back in 1980. The perpetrator was a grieving mother, driven insane by the drowning of her child, Jason Voorhees, whom she believed was neglected by the camp counselors. As legend has it, the last survivor of the attacks beheaded the woman. But then Jason came back, and now he is a vengeful and inexorable killer, wielding crossbows, swords, axes and other sharp instruments. The legend proves horribly true, as these campers quickly discover. Six months later, the brother of one of those campers distributes posters of his missing sister. The police believe she took off with her boyfriend; but he knows better. The brother crosses paths with an uptight young rich guy who is having

his girlfriend and friends over at his parents' cabin. The brother ends up at the cabin himself just before his sister's attacker sets upon them all.

The similarity of both the murderers in the film is that they are both serial killers that kills grusomely and brutally without any hesitation. Both the killers mostly uses melee weapon to kill their targets and their target are mostly teenagers. Freddy Kreuger uses a glove that has five long razor sharp blade one on each finger to kills his victims. And Jason Voorhees mostly uses a machete to hack his victims to death. Another similarity that they have is that both Freddy Kreuger and Jason Voorhees die a cruel and painfully death before they became killers. Freddy died in a blazing hot fire which was started by the parents of the victims where they believe that their kids were molested by Freddy Kreuger before he became a killer and Jason Voorhees died when we was young by drowning in the lake of Crystal Lake Camp. Jason was bullied by a bunch of bullies and wanted to ran from them but fell in the lake, he drown and none of the camp counsilers were paying attention. Last but not least is that they both are kind of and immortal killers, because at the end of the movie Freddy Kreuger and Jason Voorhees came back after being killed.

The differences between both of the movies is that the genres of both the movies are different, the genre of Nightmare of Elm Street is Horror, Mystery and slaher. But the genre of Firday the 13th is Slasher and Action Horror. Furthermore the difference in Nightmare of Elm Street, Freddy Kreuger uses the dream of the victim as a medium to kill them. He would enter their dream and kill them with his gloves that has five razor sharp blades on each finger. But in Friday the 13th, Jason Voorhees uses an axes, crossbows or a machete to kill his victims. Jason kills them right on the spot where he doesn’t use anything but the shadows and his machete. Another thing that is different is the way they dress, Freddy Kreuger wears a fedora and a red and black sweater with long pants; Freddy’s outfit has burnt marks and his face is severely burnt and scarred. Jason Voorhees wear a hockey mask and a very dark blue coat with a very worn light brown t-shirt underneath, worn out dark grey work pants and brown boots. Last but not least, the setting of the killings were also different. Freddy Kreuger kills his victim in their dreams where

he brings them to an abandon warehouse and kills them. Jason Voorhees kills his victims in an abandoned camp where he died.
