Comparatives Adjetives… Talking about two things, we can "compare" them. We

can see if they are the same or different.

We can use comparative adjectives to describe the differences.

We have three kinds of comparatives:

Superiority

Equality

Inferiority

SUPERIORITY

short adjectives: add "-er"

long adjectives: use "more"

SHORT ADJECTIVES Short words ( 1 syllable er )

old older slow slower

My grandfather is older than my father.

The turtle is slower than a dog.

SHORT ADJECTIVES If the adjective ends in e just add r

late later nice nicer

Today I arrive later than yesterday. My brother nicer than my girlfriend.

If the adjective ends in y change it to i and add er.

My sister is happier than me. Art is easier than math.

SHORT ADJECTIVES If the adjective ends in consonant,vowel,

consonant; double the last consonant and add er.

My house is bigger than an apartment. A cup of coffe is hotter than an ice cream

cone.

With some 2 syllable adjectives, we can use 'er' or 'more':

quiet → quieter/more quiet
