1. ITALMATCH CHEMICALS THE HISTORY : ITALMATCH HISTORICAL INDUSTRIAL KEY EVENTS & MILESTONE

1997 Italmatch Chemicals SpA is created through the MBO of the Saffa historical business of Inorganic Phosphorus Derivatives, based in Spoleto Plant; main production: Phosphorus Pentasulphide, Red Phosphorus and Phosphorus Sulphides; Yellow Phosphorus production at Spoleto site was stopped in 1965, but key technology was retained.

1998 Italmatch Chemicals SpA becomes an indipendent Company, with focus on Specialty Phosphorus Derivatives, and long-term supply agreements with China for Yellow Phosphorus are established.

1999 Italmatch Chemicals manufactures a trial development of Red Phosphorus Microencapsulated as Flame Retardant for Polyamid.

2000 Capacity of Red Phosphorus is doubled at Spoleto site MasteretTM, Polymer based Masterbatch of Red Phosphorus is developed as “Easy and Safe” Handlng-processing of Red Phosphorus Flame Retardants in Engineering Thermoplastics.

2001 Started first JV in China (Yunnan) for P-intermediate.

2003 Italmatch Chemicals obtaines ISO14000 Environmental Certification at Spoleto site.

2004 Introduced MELAGARDTM, as Halogen Free Flame Retardants for plastics, based on Nitrogen technology. Signed the second joint venture in China (Yunnan) to produce elementhal phosphorus through an integrated plant, with own electrical power station.

2005-2010 Major process/product modification at P2S5 line specialized for Engine Oil Lubricant Additives - Low Contaminant / high reactivity / modified morphology P2S5 is developed - A fully independent second line of P2S5 is completed and started up to improve supply security.

2006 Established a 100% subsidiary in China for production of Halogen Free / Melamine Based Flame Retardants production (Nantong Italmatch Chemicals), in the Greater Shanghai Area, to serve the rapidly growing plastic market. Established a Trading Company in Shanghai to take advantage of chinese market opportunities. Evaluate additional investments in China and acquisitions in Europe in LOA.

2007 Italmatch Chemicals S.p.A. completes the acquisition from Akzo Nobel, of the Lube and Specialty business, with manufacturing site in Arese (Milan). Start own production of Melamine and Phosphorus Derivatives in China.

2008 Consolidation into a single Specialty Group, leader in Lube and Plastic solutions and high performance products. - New PhosliteTM, fully colourable Halogen Free Flame Retardants, based upon innovative Phosphinate chemistry are developed - Global raw materials shortage due to fertilizer markets high demand.

2009

The new Phoslite Flame Retardants family successfully consolidate into Polyolefine applications and starts expanding in Polyammide 6 and PBT. Outstanding results notwithstanding economic downturn, with stabilized raw material situation.

2010

Completed successful development in Arese site of new organic phosphorus chemistry through the introduction of a full range of organic phosphites and acid phosphates for the lube and plastic industries. Leveraging on the wide and flexible chemistries, raw materials and competence ,available at Italmatch Arese site, started successful development of new ASA /PIBSA products for fuel and industrial applications.

2011 Started feasibility study to expand Nantong Italmatch into Lubricant Additives products. Created a new own sales organization for Lubricants in Asia Pacific, establishing a Regional office in Malaysia.

2012 Enlarged the Asia Pacific distribution network for L.O.A. trough a new sales office in Shanghai, and a new representative office in India an Middle East. Completed the acquisition of Union Derivan, in Spain , with office in Barcelona and plant in Zaragoza fully integrated, leader in metallic stearates, natural esters and PVC additives to complement Arese portfolio for Lube and Plastic, with

renewable products.

2013 Italmatch completes the acquisition of Dequest ®, Water Treatment business, with manufacturing site in Newport (UK) and Phosphorus Chlorides, produced in Frankfurt (D) from Thermphos. Integration process starts establishment of the new P4 storage and handling site at Chorzow (Poland), with flexibility logistic options

2014 Dequest and Chlorides business organizations are fully integrated within the Italmatch Group, also through SAP system. Ardian (ex Axa Investment Fund) acquire Italmatch Chemicals Group together with the Management, to support growth and globalization of the Company. GRS Chemical Technologies, producer of Water Soluble Polymers and Fuel Cleaning Agents, was acquired in December.

2015 Purchase of Solvay Water Additives & Desalination business, including Briquest, Bricorr & Albrivap Trademarks; production will be carried out at Arese and Naples plants. Italmatch becomes global leader in Desalination Anti-scale Additives (Thermal & RO).

2016

Purchase of Compass Chemical International, North American leader of Phosphonates & Biocides for Industrial Water & Oil & Gas application; in addition to the Smyrna manufacturing facility, also the Houston blending plant will strengthen the Group position in the Oil & Gas markets. Recent purchase of Solvay Mining & Anticorrosion business (Ionquest).

2. PRODUCT LINES

LUBRICANTS Italmatch chemicals Spa is a leading specialty chemical company in the high end additives for special lubricant applications. Our most widely known tradename, Ketjenlube® refers to a range of polymeric esters that provides excellent lubricating performance as well as low viscosity base fluid compatibility, enhancing product stabilities and performance when considering for use in high

performance applications. Italmatch Chemicals portfolio extends beyond the Ketjenlube® polymeric esters in to a range of complex and conventional esters, oleoesters (Dapralube® range), amide friction modifiers (Dapramid® range), succinic derivatives (Dapral®: ASA, PIBSA etc.) and a range of phosphorus derivatives both phosphite, phosphonate and phosphate esters (Dapraphos® range). There are different product groups that find wide use in difficult applications and provide the formulator with several choices when developing the optimum product. Main application areas are: gear oil, where they enhance significantly the pitting and micro-pitting performance, MWF, greases, hydraulic oil applications and last but not least engine oils (2T as well as 4T). Italmatch Chemicals is the main European manufacturer of Phosphorus Pentasulphide (Pentasit®), a key raw material for the production of the widely used antiwear and antioxidant additives (ZDDP) in lubrication.

WATER & OIL MANAGEMENT Dequest® Water is one of nature’s most valuable resources, and there is an ever-increasing demand for good quality water for both industrial and domestic use. The Dequest Business is offering unique specialty additives to meet the needs of these industries that deal with water management or deal with processes or applications where water plays a crucial role. More than 40 years ago, Dequest pioneered the development of phosphonate based antiscalants. Dequest phosphonates have been the product of choice for antiscalants / dispersants / corrosion inhibitors / chelants in various applications for many years. Today Dequest offers a broad range of water management additives including Dequest phosphonates, Dequest P acrylic / maleic based (co-) polymers, Dequest PB biological polymers and tailor made products for specific applications. Dequest phosphonates and polymers are used worldwide in a broad spectrum of markets and applications, including industrial water treatment, household & industrial detergents, industrial cleaners, enhanced oil recovery operations and various industrial processes such as desalination, pulp production & bleaching of paper as well as textiles.

Esterquats – Kemfluid® Highly biodegradable compounds salts formed by quaternary ammonium cations with natural fatty acids of animal origin and a negatively charged anion. Esterquats are used as base product for manufacturing of fabric softeners in detergent industry and its special configuration gives a sensation of softness on surfaces where product is applied.

PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS

Intermediates Italmatch Chemicals manufactures a wide range of reactive chemical intermediates. Our chemical intermediates are mainly coming from the wide experience and deep knowledge in the phosphorus based chemistry, being phosphorus based reactive chemicals or intermediated produced using our phosphorus technology. Main families are below reported.

Phosphorus Chlorides PCl3 – Phosphorus Trichloride – is an important industrial chemical, used to manufacture organophosphorus compounds for a wide variety of applications, including herbicides, insecticides, plasticizers, oil additives, and flame retardants. Also used directly as a reagent in organic synthesis to convert carboxylic acids into acyl chlorides. POCl3 – Phosphorus Oxychloride is an important industrial chemical, used to manufacture organophosphorus compounds for a wide variety of applications, including herbicides, insecticides, plasticizers, oil additives, and flame retardants. Also used directly as a reagent in organic synthesis. It is also used in chlorination reactions in the pharma industry. PCl5 – Phosphorus Pentachloride, used as a chlorinating reagent in the manufacturing of antibiotics and also for the production of lithium ion battery electrolytes. Phosphorus Pentasulphide By far its main use is in the production of lubricant additives: phosphorus pentasulphide is the key raw material in the production of the very important class of lubricant additives, zinc-dithio-phosphates (ZDDP). Mining flotation agents: sodium, potassium, calcium or ammonium salts of dialkyldithiophosphoric acids are widely used as flotation promoters and collectors in mineral recovery processes. Insecticides and Fungicides: A complete family of products synthesized from phosphorus pentasulphide is used as agricultural pest control agents. This family includes relatively non-toxic products, such as Malathion, and others, for example Parathion, of non-persistent, albeit high toxicity. Acid Chlorides Arese manufacturing unit is one of the world’s largest producers of acid chlorides using the Phosphorus trichloride technology. A wide product range of distilled acid chlorides of both natural and synthetic origin is regularly available for use in industrial applications, personal care and pharma.

FLAME RETARDANTS AND PLASTIC ADDIVITES

Flame Retardants from Italmatch Chemicals

Italmatch Chemicals is a world-wide supplier of Red-P widely as Halogen Free Flame Retardant Additive in many polymers, but especially for PA66 Glass Fiber reinforced.

The present strategy of the company is to become a reliable global multiproduct player able to offer a wide range of effective

flame retardants, based on different technologies, environmentally friendly, and competitive on a cost/performance basis for the engineering polymers market.

Italmatch Chemicals has the following trade names for different halogen free product families:

Masteret® – Red Phosphorus Based Flame Retardants Melagard® – Melamine Based Flame Retardants Phoslite® – New, Phosphorus based, fully colorable Flame Retardants

Masteret®, stabilised and polymer-bound Red Phosphorus Masterbatches (NOT flammable and NOT ADR regulated), was introduced by Italmatch Chemicals in 1996 and gave the engineering plastic industry a boost in the area of high level flame retardancy technology, especially in the polyamide field. It is mainly used where moulded final fireproofed articles with outstanding properties are needed, in particular areas where good mechanical properties together with very high electrical properties are required and where the natural red or black pigmentation are acceptable. Main applications include: electric installation systems, industrial switching units, household electrical equipment and automation technology.

Melagard®: Italmatch Chemicals has recently introduced its own line of Melamine Based Flame Retardant additives with trade name Melagard®. Among other derivatives, Melagard MC (melamine cyanurate) is a non toxic and environmentally friendly product widely used in unfilled PA. Its high efficiency, low corrosivity, high compatibility with PA and good colorability allow the production of compounds that shows also good combination of electrical and mechanical properties, low density and low smokes density.

Phoslite® is the new trade name of Italmatch Chemicals recently introduced line of FR additives. It is a new family of white products intended to be used in polypropylene (PP) as well as in engineering polymers, in particular in polyamides, PBT, PC and PC Alloys, but also as Antimony trioxide replacement.

Phoslite® are highly effective additives due to the high phosphorus content, thermally stable, compatible with most organic polymers, non toxic and fully colorable (white powders).

Polymer Additives from Italmatch Chemicals

Dapraslip®: primary and secondary Fatty Acid Amides, slip and anti-block agents in polymer processing

Italmatch Undesa produces a great variety of lubricants, metal stearates and PVC stabilizers for multiple plastic industries:

- Calcium, zinc, magnesium stearates and other special esters for polymerization of Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Polycarbonate, Polystyrene, Expandable Polystyrene.

- Amide waxes, ester lubricants, and metal stearates for compound plastics.

- Calcium-Zinc PVC One-Pack Stabilizers containing all lubricants, stabilizers, pigments, U.V. filters and processing aids especially formulated for market needs ready to use in pipes, profiles, cables and PVC compounding.

These natural and biodegradable additives are suitable for food-contact plastic applications.

Italmatch Chemicals is one of the founding members of the organization for non-halogenated Phosphorus, Inorganic and Nitrogen Flame Retardants, PINFA, a sector group of Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council.
