monitoring station

The unit in the picture performs the monitoring ofsensitive areas and the military activities withinthe Firing Range of Salto di Quirra (Sardinia). Thestation measures gamma irradiation rate andconducts real time detection of alpha and betaemitting radioisotopes.

WEST Systems produces unmanned systems for theradio-isotopic characterization of aerodispersedparticulates, by applying the real time alphaspectrometry technique.


The station is capable of measuring:

• CO2 , CH4 and H2S fluxes from soil by applying the accumulation chambermethod

• Meteorological parameters: air temperature and humidity, wind speed anddirection, rain fall and barometric pressure

• Soil water content and temperature

The geochemical and environmental monitoring stations arebased on state of the art equipment such as cavity ringanalizers, infrared absorption with tunable lasers, quantumcascade lasers and other cutting-edge technologies.Where necessary, the units are equipped with probes for themeasurement of dissolved gases in water and for theassessment of gas exchange in the soil-atmosphere interface(soil gas survey and accumulation chamber). West Systemsdesigns and implements solutions for the monitoring ofemissions from:• Natural gas storage sites

• Carbon dioxide geological sequestration areas

in order to detect the presence of carbon dioxide, methane andother hydrocarbons in all environmental matrices.

The WEST Systems portable fluxmeter is aninstrument for gas flux measurement fromsoil, it is based on the accumulationchamber method and it is suitable formeasurements on landfills, volcanoes,geothermal areas and for soil transpirationassessment in agronomy.

The instrument enables measurements of a wide range of values ofgas fluxes from soil (CO2, CH4, H2S VOC, N2O), and it can be used forsurveying uncontrolled emissions of biogas in landfills.

The ACQUASENSE System is one of the first industrial research and experimentaldevelopment projects, on a global scale, that combines the conceptual, flow and pollutantstrasport models of water basin resources with innovative data-processing systems.AQUASENSE is a fundamental tool for an optimal water basin management and for the sizingof the water quality monitoring system.
