About Allied Control

Allied Control is a high-tech start-up building the most efficient cooling solution for high density electronics, and 3M’s Technology Partner for Novec™ Engineered Fluids.

With its unique and very different approach to cool computers, the company has attracted international attention and recently won the prestigious DataCenterDynamics and Best Green ICT Awards for most energy efficient data center and “Future Thinking & Design Concept”.

The innovative technology has earned praise from major media outlets such as CNN, New York Times and International Business Times, which see the company’s achievement in liquid immersion technology as the possible solution to the global energy crisis we see in data centers today.

Today, the company is known as pioneer and the first one worldwide to successfully implement the technology in commercial operations since 2012, providing drastically reduced OpEx and CapEx for operators.

Kar-Wing Lau, VP of Operations and Co-Founder

Kar-Wing held positions as global leader at the multinational company Agility, where he worked on key accounts such as Wal-Mart, Apple and Chevron with single client contract values of up to USD 238 million, and later implemented internal organizational process and IT changes to improve best-practices across 22,000 employees in 500 locations on 6 continents.

Before joining Suzanne and Alex at PGT Holdings, where he drove operational efficiency to record levels, Kar-Wing has been CEO of the public IT consulting company Connecta AG which he co-founded in Germany. Connecta AG creates solutions for customers like Motorola and Deutsche Bank.

Kar-Wing is a sublime analyst and product designer with a practical hands-on drive, and his role is instrumental when scaling a start-up.

Suzanne Su, Managing Director and Co-Founder

Suzanne coordinated large and diverse teams across different regions in her various roles as director and general manager, including at PGT where she first worked with Kar-Wing and Alex.

With her intimate knowledge of the Chinese and international manufacturing landscape and her good understanding of how to ensure utmost manufacturing quality, Suzanne has set up a complex network of suppliers on multiple continents, driving down costs and time to market, as well as improving profitability.

Suzanne is our expert in mass-production and speaks three different languages (four with Mandarin Chinese).

Alex Kampl, VP of Engineering and Co-Founder

Alex has previously founded and headed two successful start-ups and held various technical positions that included full scale product management from idea to delivery.

As an inventor and product developer, Alex’s track-record includes a number of award-winning computer hardware products as well as the world’s first MP3 disc player back in 2000. As an entrepreneur, Alex established the most successful online retailer in Hong Kong with a traffic ranking of no-less than the Financial Times website before it was sold to PGT, where he worked with Kar-Wing and Suzanne. He is our visionary engineer.

When Alex is not in front of a computer or fiddling with components or mechanical parts, he enjoys running up Hong Kong’s hills and nature trails, and taking his family out into the wild.

Jim Setterholm, VP of R&D, Co-Founder

Jim’s background lies in the consumer electronics industry, where he not only participated in the creation of ground-breaking new gadgets, but also took several products from concept to mass production throughout the years.

With his extensive hands-on experience in electronics, computing, product design and quality manufacturing, he has recognized early that the age of reinventing tomorrow’s data center has come.

Jim is fueled by a hunger for inventing new and clean solutions for all things technical. Before joining forces at Allied Control, he has been at the helm of two Asia based startups and found his way to PGT where he met and worked with Suzanne, Kar-Wing and Alex.
