iction! project

Launched in 2015, the iction! project provides support to employees who are working and parenting, based on the concept of cooperating together to create a world where it is easy to work while raising children. Through this project, the Recruit Group, together with participating government offices, companies, NPOs, and other external parties, collaborate in the aim to ensure employment for parents who want to work.Three key themes have been identified for the iction! project following the results of a survey on workers and job-seekers regarding the balance between working and parenting that was held in 2015 by the Recruit Works Institute. These key themes will serve as the basis for service development, surveys, seminars targeted at companies, and other activities.

Recruit Career is a company that provides services for the Recruit Group’s HR business segment, focusing on full-time employment services that target new graduate and mid-career job seekers. Some of our offerings include media services that make full use of our platforms including RIKUNAVI and RIKUNAVI NEXT; new graduate and mid-career recruiting agent services such as Recruit Agent that directly connect our clients with job-seekers; and screening support

services which include interview training and aptitude testing such as SPI3. We also are working to help solve social issues through services such as HELPMAN JAPAN, which was designed to increase the size of the workforce population in the nursing care industry. Recruit Jobs is a company that provides services for the Recruit Group’s HR business segment , focus ing on recruiting services that cover all employment styles including part-time jobs, temporary staffing jobs, and full-time employment. Our Travail le magazine, first published in 1980, changed the way people in Japan view female employment by suggesting new work styles for women. From our inaugural issue of FromA magazine in 1982, we further influenced the way the public thinks of part-time work by presenting these jobs as a lifestyle choice. Since then, we have continued to develop new services that match job-seekers with employers across Japan. For example, our service TOWNWORK is currently distributed in 100 regional editions across Japan as of February 2017 to provide a media channel that helps to bring together people with companies in their respective local

communities. Meanwhile, our Hatalike job search site places emphasis on the candidate’s personality and attributes rather than limiting the focus to obvious criteria such as work experience or skills. New RING is a general term used to describe the various contests for new business projects that are held within the Recruit Group. First started in 1982 under the name RING (Recruit Innovation Group) and renamed to New RING in 1990, this program is held every year and has helped to produce many new businesses, including Zexy and Study Sapuri. With the launch of our new operating structure in 2012, the program has evolved to enable group companies to hold their own new business contests under the New RING brand. Among these individual contests, the Recruit Ventures contest held by Recruit Holdings accepts entries at any time and holds a review panel every month as a platform for business development that generates major core businesses ten years in the future. In order to reflect this philosophy, we believe that it is important to first enable our employees reach their full potential regardless of gender. We have been promoting diversity since 2006 with the aim of encouraging the active participation of women, who account for around half of our workforce.Our efforts began by improving the work environment. In 2007, we further established an on-site day-care center within our corporate headquarters building. At Recruit, we provide support to female employees who will be potentially experiencing major life events by holding a career development training session for them to identify their strengths and think about their future careers. We also hold a management training session for their reporting managers. Feedback from female participants, such as “I was able to discuss my concerns over my future career,” demonstrate the positive impact that this initiative has had in helping women consider their future careers. Similarly, feedback from reporting managers, such as “Everything I learned about communication that taps into female employees’ potential was immediately put into practice. The session teaches you about important things in management. Everyone in a management position should take this training session,” indicate that this program is promoting management practices that accelerate the growth of our female employees.

And’s: Our on-site daycare centerAnd’s, our on-site daycare center, was started in 2008 in the same building as Recruit’s headquarters in order to provide employees who wish to develop their career but do not have access to daycare the freedom to return to work after maternity leave. Since the daycare center was opened, the ratio of women returning to work has increased – as of April 2017, 22.7% of our female employees are working mothers. Recruit has also arranged corporate contracts with childcare providers to meet the needs for flexible approaches to parenting support.

Our target for women in corporate decision-making positionsIn September 2012, we set a numerical target for the proportion of women in corporate decision-making positions(as Executive Officers or positions with comparable authority) throughout key Recruit Group companies in Japan,

aiming for 10% or more by April 2015. This target was achieved in April 2015 and subsequently maintained in April 2017 at 12.8%.Beginning in 2015, we are also implementing various initiatives across the Recruit Group in order to meet a medium-term

target of increasing the proportion of female managers throughout key Recruit Group companiesin Japan to 30% or more by April 2018. In April 2017, 27.0% of these positions were held by women.

The Women’s Leadership Program is designed for female candidates for senior management positions. In the half-year vision training, they are encouraged to develop a deeper level of awareness and consciousness of leadership by articulating the vision and goals that they want to achieve and exploring their leadership style. Participants who complete the vision training can see the change in themselves and take a new step into the future.

Launched in 2016, the Be a DIVER! diversity project serves to foster the individuality of each employee to help them perform to their full potential. Lectures featuring internal and external guest speakers and opportunities for discussion are offered on a wide variety of topics, including not only female participation but also the challenge for men to find a balance between work and parenting responsibilities, LGBT, caring for aging family members, and work styles. In addition to holding the events, reports on the events are also distributed to all employees to raise their awareness and contribute to cultivating a workplace where diverse employees can thrive.

Honki no Shushoku(Getting Serious About Work)Free job-hunting support program

Since 2007, we have been providing support to increase the meaningfulness of the workplace experience activities conducted by Japanese junior high schools as part of their career education curriculums. In fiscal 2016, the support program was conducted for 1,805 students at 11 junior high schools and involved the participation of 35 Recruit Group employees. The program is also offered online, free of charge, to junior high schools across Japan.

The Recruit Group offers a free job-hunting support program that leverages our expertise in HR. Held since 2011 in cooperation with universities and NPOs, the program was attended by 3,994 participants (1,893 university participants, 1,541 NPO participants, and 560 Recruit participants) in fiscal 2016 and has recorded a total of some 23,000 participants since the program was first launched.

Established by Recruit in 1971 in order to give back to the community, the Ezoe Memorial Foundation is a Japanese public interest incorporated foundation that mainly provides scholarships and subsidies in order to help develop people who have the potential to succeed on a global stage. Since the foundation was established, it has awarded scholarships to 622 people, many of whom have become prominent in the fields of academics, music, art, and sports. In fiscal 2016, the foundation provided scholarships to 36 people and grants to 20 groups. Fiscal 2016 also marked the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the foundation. The concert held to celebrate this milestone featured collaborative performances by scholarship students in the instrumental category and graduates in the vocal category.

One of the Recruit Group’s CSR Three Actions is “fulfilling our responsibilities as a corporate citizen.”Our CSR activities are focused on contributing to society, but we also recognizethat there are many issues that cannot be resolved by this strategy alone andmany expectations placed on us by the public. We are committed to being a leading companythat contributes and gives back to local communities with the awarenessthat business growth translates into greater responsibility as a corporate citizen.

Community Involvement and Social Contribution Activities

Recruit operates two galleries in the Ginza area of Tokyo: Creation Gallery G8 and Guardian Garden, which have been in operation for 33 years and 27 years respectively. Creation Gallery G8 is located on the first floor of Recruit’s registered headquarters in the Ginza 8-chome area and mainly showcases the works of top designers under the theme of richer lives through design. The Guardian Garden is located on the basement level of a building in the Ginza 7-chome area and has supported the creative activities of many young artists by holding competitions to discover and foster young talent. As an annual event, a charity exhibition is held at the end of each year. In fiscal 2016, the Aiiro Cup exhibition showcased porcelain cups that were designed by 169 creative artists on a voluntary, noncommercial basis. A total of 5,710 cups were sold and proceeds were donated to the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake Relief Fund operated by Kumamoto Prefecture.

Our beginnings date back to 1960, when we first started as an advertising agency for a college paper. We have since expanded our business scope significantly.In October 2012, we adopted a holding company structure to launch a new Recruit Group in the aim for further growth. The timeline below provides a brief overview of our history.

In 1960, Recruit was launched from a prefab unit located on the rooftop of the Mori building in Tokyo’s Nishi Shimbashi district.Since then, Recruit has established a history of creating new value and new opportunities.

Helping people make their own decisions through the liberalization and advent of information.It all started with a new magazine business that was launched to bring together and address the needs of two specific groups: companies that are looking for people to recruit and students who are looking for jobs.

We worked to ensure that people can choose their future direction without placing too much importance on common standards or well-known brand names. By offering open access to previously exclusive information, we helped ensure that people can search for homes without restrictions. We also helped make it possible for people to easily change jobs and have countless chances to take on new challenges.

In Japan, housing information includes information on the amount of time required to walk to the relevant home from the nearest train station. Previously, the seller was able to create advertisements without restrictions. For this reason, the rules and standards used were inconsistent and resulted in housing information that would indicate a walk time that was much shorter than the actual time required. To address this problem, our “JUTAKU JOHO” magazine adopted a standard measure for walking distance, which calculates 80 meters as 1 minute and which was used in all real estate listings. We also included floor plan drawings and other features that made it easy for potential purchasers to compare properties.

In this decade, Japan saw the advent of the internet age. In this connection, we launched a wide variety of services that developed our magazine content while also taking advantage of internet functions. For example, we offered a service that delivered the relevant information to potential condominium buyers after they registered their preferences such as desired budget, location, and room dimensions. From the early days of the internet when use was confined to only a limited few, our “Mix-Juice” service experimented with a variety of ideas.

In the early days of the internet, we were already experimenting with various new service models.

‘ab-road’ helped change the concept of traveling abroad, which was perceived as a luxury for the few, into a more commonplace experience that can be enjoyed by everyone.

Paved the way for anyone to go abroad with ease, signaling a shift to an age of internationalization for each individual.
