Why is This Project Important?
• ~ 38K University employees competing for 18K employee parking spaces (half for Medical Campus)
• 3,210 total B&F employees (75% live outside of Ann Arbor)
• Commuting via single occupancy vehicle is costly for employees
• Align to B&F goals: decrease demand for parking and increase environmental performance
Project Overview
• Develop recommendations to increase the use of existing transportation options for commuting to and from work
• Develop recommendations to increase the use of existing transportation options during the work day
• Explore the use of technology to reduce the need for work day travel
• Assess the need to modify existing transportation services
Key Travel Recommendations
• Actively promote existing programs: MRide, Express Bus, vanpooling, and carpooling
• Build awareness of program features: Magic Bus, preferred parking, emergency ride home
• Align residence and campus locations to develop campaigns that target employees with greatest potential
• Expand campus bus service; South Campus to Wolverine Tower and North Campus to Arbor Lakes
