Ken’s Korner

October is always a very busy month of the year. We’ve ended a full summer of activities and begun our march to Christmas. (Yes, only 8 more shopping weekends before Christmas) Just getting ready for our annual Fall Celebration is a lot of coming and going, meeting and greeting, praying and preparing. In the midst of that we are planning with other churches Thanksgiving services, Holy Week next year and now seeking to work together in the lower part of the state with churches and families that have been hit hardest by the unprecedented weather and flooding.

Additionally we are planning some of the most worshipful experiences of the year in the

church. We are praying for a “Spiritual Awakening” throughout the land. MARK Club (Sunday PM) and “BIBLE QUEST” (Wednesday PM) have grown and are making tremendous inroads for the Kingdom of God in the lives of children and their families throughout are community. And the dedication of the volunteers is just heart-warming. To God be the glory!

And while all of this is happening, you as a church take the time to recognize Betsy and me

for 12 years as your Pastor and Pastor’s wife. You are so generous! You are so kind! And we can’t express how much we love you. From the moment that we knew the Lord wanted us here we have felt a difference at CSBC. We are blessed and we thank the Lord daily for all His blessings.

Thank you for all your expressions of love during Pastor Appreciation month. I also want to

say thank you for the many birthday cards and wishes also that came during the middle of the month. From the serious to the silly, each card and expression of your love was read and reflect-ed upon. Thank you for allowing us to be part of such a loving family of God at CSBC! We love you and always will.

She is beginning to make adjustments to living at The Gardens, an assisted-living residence. Thank all of you for remembering her, perhaps your oldest member, in your thoughts and prayers.

Gratefully, Janice (Lanford) Comer”

***************

Dear College Street Baptist Church Family, Thank each one of you for your kindness to our family during the recent loss of my aunt, Janice Deal who was a long-time member of College Street. We certainly felt your prayers for us during this time. Also, we so much appreciated each of you who contributed toward the wonderful meal that was prepared for our family. Please continue to remember each of us in your prayers.

Sincerely,

Kay (Roach) Owens

Children’s Ministries Lauren Beddingfield, Director of Children

To My Dear Church Family,

As the month of November begins, I always find myself looking forward to this time of year. I love fall. Everything is colorful, the weather is cooler, and I’m pretty sure that there isn’t a thing left not made out of pumpkin or pumpkin spice! I also love that we take the time to be thankful for what we have and for all of the many ways that God has blessed us. We have been blessed indeed and I believe, because of our efforts this fall, our community has been blessed as well. This past Sunday night at the Fall Celebration, you may have seen me (or at least the Princess Anna version of me) walking around our campus. I met with many of our guests and asked them about their families and if we could pray for them. Our community has many needs. I met with one family who is working toward taking in four foster children. Other families asked for prayer for sick family members and that their needs for rent would be met. So many people told me how thankful they were to us for having the Fall Celebration! Many of them look forward to coming every year and others came for the first time. I have been overwhelmed by our response as a church to meet the needs of our community and our state through our South Carolina Disaster Relief efforts. When the church first began, according to Acts 2, “All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need….and the Lord added to their number DAILY those who were being saved.” The local church should always be focused outwardly and it is so encouraging to me to be a part of a church that loves and serves our community well.

I hope that as we approach this time of year where we focus on being thankful for the immeasurable ways that God has blessed our community, our state and our nation, we take time to recall that our country’s first Thanksgiving was a very humble affair. The Pilgrims took a day to celebrate with each other and their new comrades, the Native Americans, and took time to thank God for what He had given to them. Marcie from “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” put it best when she said “Those early Pilgrims were thankful for what had happened to them and we should be thankful too. We should just be thankful for being together. I think that’s what they mean by Thanksgiving, Charlie Brown.” Wishing you a blessed season.

Lauren
