The principle is a simple one: three dimensional shapes are made from folding a square of thin paper without scissor cuts and no glue. Use square pieces of paper to make items such as an origami wallet, gift bag, vase, tissue box, seed packet, and seed pot. Origami Zoo (8-15 yrs) Sessions 1,3By: Ryan PaulusWe’re going to make a zoo from origami! Each day, we’ll create a new part of the zoo and learn how to make origami creations.$50.00 + $5.00 Material Fee

Paper Craft Extravaganza (9-15 yrs) Session 4By: Angela MeekJoin us for four days of fabulous paper crafts! On day one, you’ll make your own cards - birthday, Christmas, thank you - whatever occasion you like! On day two, you’ll make a calendar to keep track of birthdays and other important events that happen every year. On day three, you’ll make a photo explosion box for displaying up to 24 photos. Our last day will be spent completing any unfinished projects and adding the finishing touches! You’ll need to bring at least 12 photos that can be cut to fit on 4” x 4”, 3.5” x 3.5”, and 3.25” x 3.25” squares for the photo box project. Lego Mindstorms NXT (9-12 yrs) Session 1By: Jeremy FeuchtLEGO Mindstorms NXT is the second generation of LEGO Mindstorms and is built around a LEGO brick called the NXT, which acts as the brain of the Mindstorms robot and controls the robot’s movement. LEGO Mindstorms NXT allows students to construct robots that see, speak, feel, move, and obey their commands using gears, motors, and sensors (ultrasonic, sound, touch, and light). Students will build a robot that utilizes all of these sensors to interact with various elements in the classroom using special software.$50.00 + $2.00 Material Fee

CulinaryAdvanced Cake Decorating (10-15 yrs) Sessions 1,3By: Mark WorthingtonTasks and skills will build on those taught in the Beginning Cake Decorating class. The students will prepare filling, icing, mix color and apply design composition to combine shells, dots, lines, leaves and flowers, pipe bubble figures on cupcakes, multicolored flowers and roses and combine flavors to finished cakes. Truth Endurance Mini Triathlon Training (8-15 yrs) Session 4By: Chris RaykovichBecome a triathlete with Coach Chris from Truth Endurance training! Throughout the week you will swim, bike and run, then have your very own mini-triathlon on the last day! This is leading up to the kids’ triathlon through the City of Lewiston Parks and Rec department, held August 19. Come learn how to train with the best and then sign up for a real triathlon! Children will be bussed to Bert Lipps Pool and Vollmer Bowl for class. Kids’ should bring bikes from home on designated days. Who can take Kids’ College classes? Our classes are designed for kids who are ages 6-15 by June 1, 2017.

Who teaches Kids’ College classes?Our instructors are LCSC staff and faculty and individuals from the region who have an expertise in their topic area(s) and are interested in teaching youth. We are committed to providing a fun, safe experience for our students and theirfamilies. To ensure your child is securein our care, each of our instructors mustsuccessfully complete a background check.

What is the Minimum/Maximum number of kids in a class?The minimum enrollment is generally fivestudents. Maximum enrollment is generally15 students. Final decision will be made by Kids’ College staff and the instructor.

Do I need to pay the transportation fee ifI’m dropping off/picking up my child?There are certain classes that require atransportation fee, such as bowling, watersports, and golf. If you take your child to his/her class and pick him/her up, thetransportation fee can be waived. To waivethe transportation fee you will need to contact the Kids’ College office at 208-792-2860.PLEASE NOTE: If you register online, thetransportation fee will not be waived.

What if I can’t afford to pay for Kids’College?Scholarships are available! You can fill out a scholarship application online at www.lcsc.edu/kids-college or print one out and mail it,fax it, or drop it by the Kids’ College officeSam Glenn Complex 211. Deadline 6/16/17. Scholarships can cover the cost of up to fourKids’ college classes.

Do I have to sign up for all classes allday?There is no requirement for you to sign up fora full day of classes within a session or tosign up for more than one session. Eachclass stands alone and you can sign up forone time slot per session. There are a variety of different classes to choose from in each time slot and within the different sessions, so we recommend that you sign up for what works best for you.

What are the drop-off and pick-upprocedures?For the safety of all children, you mustaccompany your child to the designated area no more than 15 minutes prior to class and check in with the Kids’ College staff. Children should NOT be dropped off or picked upwithout being properly checked in/out. There will be no type of supervision for your child if you arrive earlier then the designated time of 8:00am. We also ask that you pick your child up within 5 minutes of their scheduled class ending time, in person, at the designated area and check out with Kids’ College staff. There will be no type of supervision after 4:45pm, so please arrive on time. If you have special circumstances, please contact the Kids’ College Office at least 24 hours ahead of time.Please keep in mind we have limited staffsupervision prior to and after hours ofoperation. Also note that the only supervisionprovided during Kids’ College sessionsincludes the time your child is checked in for a class until your child is checked out,including breaks between enrolled classesand the lunch break. If your child is notenrolled in back-to-back classes, supervisionwill not be provided for the time they are not enrolled in class. Please arrange for them to be picked up and checked out at theappropriate time.

What are the lunch arrangements? Kids’ College provides a supervised lunchperiod for children who attend classes immediately before or after lunchtime. Pleasecheck your child’s schedule to see if theirclass qualifies. Lunches are not provided, soplease send your child with a sack lunch orthey may also purchase a lunch combo oncampus at a special price. Children may be sent with lunch money OR (NEW THIS YEAR) you may purchase lunches online when you enroll. Please send your child with the correct amount of money because we cannot be responsible for any shortages. Supervised games and activities will be available to those who finish their lunch early. Parents are always welcome to join their children for lunch.Please note there will be no supervisionoutside of classes other than transitionbetween classes and lunchtime. If your child is not signed up for afternoon classes please arrange for them to be picked up andchecked out at the appropriate time.

What if my child is unable to attend theirclass(es)?You may cancel registration for a full refundup to 2 weeks prior to the class start date.After the 2 weeks prior to class you maytransfer to another class or receive a credit to put towards a future class. Refundscompleted within 2 weeks of the class startdate will result in a $10 administration fee.Refunds can take up to several weeks forprocessing. No refunds will be issued afterthe start day of a class. If your child needs to miss a day within the session, there will beno cost adjustments and arrangementsshould be made with the Kids’ College officein advance.

What if my child’s class is cancelled?Sometimes a change in schedule orunforeseen event may cause us to cancel aclass. If this happens, you will be notified immediately and can arrange to transfer intoanother class, receive credit toward anothersession or receive a full refund. Refunds maytake several weeks to process.

Meet Our InstructorsMichelle Adamson is a local artist and part owner in Bohemian Fae, a henna and face painting creative endeavor that you have likely seen at many public events in the LC Valley.

Autumn Cole is a student at LCSC and was able to spend last summer working at Disney World in Orlando, Florida as a ‘Magic Maker’ at a restaurant called Pinocchio’s Village Haus in the Magic Kingdom. We are excited to have her back this summer!

Donna Cook owns North Pole Ceramics and has been a long-time instructor with us.

Caroline (Yasmin) Edwards is an adjunct instructor of Spanish for LCSC and also teaches many workshops regionally.

Rodney Farrington has been working in hospitality industry for over 30 years and is currently the Hospitality Management Advisor/Instructor in the Business Technology and Service Division at LCSC.

Jeremy Feucht teaches technology classes at Jenifer Junior High in Lewiston.

Ryan Fiske and his wife, Jennie, own 360 Gymnastics in Clarkston.

Jeanette Gara-Betzold, MNR, RYT is an adjunct instructor of Natural Sciences and Kinesiology at LCSC and owns JGB Yoga.

Kelsey Grafton is the Exhibit & Programming Coordinator at LCSC Center for Arts & History. She is also an award winning illustrative designer and fine artist who has worked both nationally and internationally. She enjoys being an art instigator who inspires creativity in artists of all ages and skill levels.

Rollie Hallen is a Chemistry Lab Instructor at LCSC and local sound guru for many area bands.

Leif Hoffmann, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at LCSC. He also goes to his native Germany annually, bringing back goodies for his Kids’ College class.

Rachel Jameton, Ph.D. is a Professor of Chemistry at LCSC.

Dawn Lesperance is the Director of e-Learning Services at LCSC and has been avidly geocaching for five years.

Angela Meek is a senior instructional designer at LCSC. She has enjoyed scrapbooking and card making for many years.

Lara Morrison teaches dance and Zumba at various places regionally.

Erik Odenborg is an Account Technology Strategist for Microsoft and graciously donates his time to Kids’ College.

Doug Ontiveros is an avid bowler and has been teaching for Kids’ College for 7 years.

Ryan Paulus is an AmeriCorps Vista at LCSC. This is his second year instructing.

Chris Raykovich and his wife Jennifer own Truth Endurance Nutrition and Triathlon training.

Tracy Robles owns As You Like It Cakes in Beautiful Downtown Lewiston.

Charlene Shuping has been showing dogs for about 15 years. She started with Great Danes and now has Standard Smooth Dachshunds. Her last Dane held a Rally Advanced title. She has shown 5 dogs to Champions in Conformation, 2 to Grand Championships and one of those was #6 Smooth Dachshund in the nation in 2011-2012. Four of her Dachshunds hold Rally Novice titles. We are happy to have Charlene with Kids’ College again this year!

Tony Sittner is an active volunteer at the LCSC Center for Arts & History and teaches various art classes including Letterpress, Book Making, Paper Making and Paper Marbling. He also substitutes in the Lewiston school system and teaches classes weekends at the Letterpress Museum in Palouse, WA.

Jeff Spinelli works at Sodexo on the LCSC campus.

Myndie VanHorn owns Art Uncorked at The Fourth Wall Gallery on Main Street in Lewiston. Since her very first oil set at eight years old, she has been dabbling in all kinds of art. Myndie left the corporate world about four years ago and started teaching classes to individuals of all ages shortly after. This will be her second year teaching for Kids’ College.

Jennifer Wik is a bird nerd at heart! She has a bachelors and masters degree in biology and specializes in ornithology, the study of birds. She worked for Idaho Fish and Game as a biologist before starting a family. She is now working in the local Clarkston School District and enjoys helping kids with their studies. She loves sharing her love and knowledge of birds with the young people in our valley.

Frances Woods will be a senior at Clarkston High School and has been showing dogs for 6 years. She has been in the top 10 Dachshund Junior Handlers for the past 5 years and was #1 Miniature Dachshund Handler in the Nation two years in a row. She has shown dogs of various breeds in the US and in Canada and has won college scholarships in AKC Junior Handling. Her goal is to show at Westminster Dog Show in New York City in 2018.
