Benefits

The telecoms structure will deliver next generation 4G communications infrastructure to the area, as well as improve coverage for other existing technologies. The 4G network will provide exceptionally fast internet to local residents and businesses.

The proposal will dramatically improve phone signal coverage in an area that has been identified by the Mobile Network Operators as suffering from poor mobile phone coverage.

A capital contribution will be made to recreation ground trust that will contribute to the sustainable operation of the recreation ground into the future.

Coverage

The radio propagation plots below are based on Ordnance Survey geographical information. The level of coverage provided by a particular site is dependent on a number of variables. The main factors which determine the extent of coverage are: the frequency of the signal emitted, the height of the antenna above ground level, the characteristics of the surrounding topography and the type and occurrence of ground clutter

such as buildings and trees which can cause ‘shadows’ or reflections and can absorb the signal. Type and design of pole proposed The Radio Planners have produced accurate visual representations of the level of coverage available in this particular area by using computer modelling software based on a Geographical Information System. The programme takes the numerous variables as above into account and can then calculate and plot the strength of the signal. This produces images at a fixed resolution resulting in the images below.

Health

The telecommunications proposal will be fully compliant with standards set down by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). ICNIRP is an independent scientific organisation whose aim is to provide guidance and advice on the health implications of telecommunications development.

Radio waves from base stations in this country comply with international health and safety guidelines. The levels of radio waves emitted from base stations in places where the public have access are generally found to be hundreds or thousands of times below the health and safety guideline limits. And, although the levels of radio waves from mobile phones are higher than from base stations, all mobile phones comply with international and UK health and safety guidelines.

In June 2011 the World Health Organisation (WHO) noted that “A large number of studies have been performed over the last two decades to assess whether mobile phones pose a potential health risk. To date, no adverse health effects have been established as being caused by mobile phone use.”
