Question 4 - What Inspires you about the Barossa?
Question 5 - What would you like to see in 20 year's time in the Barossa?
This question relates to what people want or prioritise
This question relates to what things can be done
This question helps to define the theme and gives insight into the values of the community
This is a combination question and relates to what things can be done, prioritised and community values.
Connecting young people with heritage & listening to their ideas for the future. We need jobs and facilities to keep them here. They are our future.
Heritage needs to be a high priorty to preserve the built heritage and ongoing cultural heritage. Important for the Barossa Band to continue to remain unique and strong
The beautiful environment, landscape and heritage of the area.
Barossa world heritage listed - part of Mt Lofty bid
encourage heritage side of the Valley
Value our environment that is trees and landscape and historical structures and the views without 10 storey high Telstra poles in the middle of Lyndoch ruining the gateway of the Barossa views.
The fantastic views, conservation parks close by, trees, birds etc.
A heritage centre that brings together many of the collections and stories. An active place for interaction, creativity and continuing to strengthen the heritage aspects of the Barossa. Angaston station precinct could bring these things together as an active heritage centre for agriculture, German heritage, wine history and Barossa ingenuity
Bull doze ugly modern developments and plant vineyards and native vegetation. Get stricter planning to protect farmland and vineyards from development and also protect heritage buildings.
Preservation of the heritage and environment is better rather than increasing populations and further development which places added stress on infrastructure. Country living and landscape
Maintaining and promoting what we have - the fantastic views, conservation parks within short distances, trees, birds.
Put a cap on population growth
Maintaining the qualities about the Barossa that attracted us to living here in the first place - country lifestyle and open spaces. Scenery and peacefulness Heritage protection
Have three to five storey living spaces
Retain the essence of the Barossa but be real about the need to change and expand ie building higher structures ie apartments / units to accommodate more people The heritage
Plenty of trees in yards and on streets - shade trees especially.
Environmental awareness
Through better environmental practices such as planting endemic native plants and supporting local businesses. It will enhance quality of life, make it a beautiful place to live and continue the desired image of the Barossa (as shown in the recent Barossa advertisement on TV). These priorities will continue the pride that so many Barossans and I myelf have to be living in the Barossa. We need to make this a sustainable culture for future generations. Rural landscape Resurgance in local biodiversity
Retain the heritage & prevent urban sprawl
The trees from Angaston to EV are dying and no-one seems to care or is doing anything about it.
Ethics which were the focus of the early Barossa settlers and still continues today getting lost due to some indifferent attituted of some people Tree lined streets
Preserve space - no developmentHeritage is important for a peaceful, stress less and easy lifestyle Nuri is nice and flat and easy to walk.
Recycled storm ater to retain green landscapes
User friendly ideas to encourage the community to make, recycle and reuse their own products.
I am in a phase of my life that I place high priority on the environment that I live in; heritage is a major feature of the Barossa Nature
Heritage of the region sustained particularly in Tanunda, Lyndoch, Williamstown and Angaston
Plant more trees along streets and public places
i am new to the area so will help me understand the past history of the area and where my heritage has formed Natural beauty.
Wine hall of fame convering the history of wine Australia wide and people involved.
Plant native species
More nature in the towns would make the Barossa a more beautiful place for current residents and visitors. Trees are what makes a town nice, the homes in the new developments certainly aren't. Look at the most expensive neighbourhoods in Adelaide and it is the trees which make them grand. Its seasonal agrarian landscapes
A more conservation aware community with young innovative thinkers on these matters.
Increasing the size of current nature reserves and create new ones
Ensure planning and development decisions are heritage sensitive
Its just the most beautiful place to drive through - no matter what time of year not matter what time of day.
More street trees and better designed houses to withstand climate change
Promote a green environment - encourage solar, water saving, electricity saving, water wise plantings & get the community involved Heritage Trees along main strength
It is very picturesque and has a lovely country outlook
A heritage hub at the Angaston railway precint
The heritageNative trees that are more than 20 years old
VegetationMore opportunities to enjoy the natural environment
The history of wine making
Every town is self-sufficient in production and consumption of energy and water
Scenery, landscapes Trees so people can be out of the sunThe backdrop of the hills and general scenery of the Barossa Retention of its German heritageThe natural aspects, the hills, farms, rivers - we need more, most of the vegetation is limited to the side of the road
Clear long term protection for green space

Will enhance what we already have & keep families in the Barossa. Will make us more competitive with Australia & World. Produce vibrant children for our future. Build a new shopping centre with a cinema
Small business country service excellence.
Thriving community, with strong jobs growth
Keeping youth in the Barossa for work; making the Barossa a desirable place to live.
More employment i believe makes a better living environment
Excellent wines and farm table produce
Enough retail variety to support the community
We need to protect the rural landscape and those who farm it and grow vineyards to keep the character and economy of the region strong.
Help small businesses get new ideas off the ground, cut read tape and costs. Food and wine
An All you can eat place like Cafe Primo.
Without agriculture and the wine industry there will be not tourism or economic growth. We don't need more people or ugly developments that look lik a suburb of Elizabeth in the Barossa.
Markets and pop-ups for local businesses to show their wares Wine and food
Excellent wines and farm to table produce
There has to be employment Better job opportunitiesSound regional economic based in close proximity to the city
Agriculture and premium food production, vineyards and premium wine production.
Increase the attractiveness as a tourism and investment destination Young people - future proofing Great for small businesses Development of tourismEmployment in the region for our youth. Skills and expertise remaining in the region will strengthen the region.
Encourage businesses to make family friendly places.
Used to be small business and enterprise - which is no longer
Major shopping developments in the Barossa
Currently, as a youth in the Barossa i feel that there is no future for me here. Jobs are scarce, especially for youth and the community is shockingly closed-minded.
Support the Community and Industry to work together to build its comparative advantage Food and wine
Better employment options - for young ones
Providing growth and well-being for myself, my business and the prosperity of my children as they mature into a digital world. Employment opportunities Vast variety of winemakers Coles or other shopping options
By having a strong sense of community backed by employment opportunities for people willing to work.
Continue the support of local businesses and keep the 'big companies' out. For example a Big W or similar businesses would hinder the Barossan image and put our local businesses in jeopardy. Food and wine More industry
make employment futures certainprovide incentives for the food and wine industry to thrive and grow
The beating heart of the Australian wine industry
Awareness that little people can have little industries
Good jobs = good communityAttract businesses to establish and stay in the Barossa
The paddock to plate connection - visible and accessible
Encourage and support entreprenuership
employment opportunities for school leavers (of which I will have 3 over the next few years) with a view to establishing careers locally rather than metropolitan-based. More retail opportunities in main streets Food and wine Employment opportunities
Need jobs for a vibrant community. Need better variety of shops. Good community feel here. more job opportunities for residents High quality food and wine
Moveable footpaths, more seats and fixed pavements
To provide a great opportunity for employment in the Barossa area. More variety shops Great cafes The new Community Store
Through bringing new businesses and families to the area. Making it a place people want to live. More employment opportunities. More employment
Avoid big international businesses and keep small businesses flourishing
Consultation outside the region to best ensure more diverse partenrship in the community. Realise that the Barossa is part of SA not the entity on its own and for the economic develpoment. A bigger picture approach is required, particularly when you look at the other struggling areas such as the Gawler region also. Not too many fast food franchises
More opportunities for local businesses
Sound and broad employment base that attracts and retains a vibrant younger populationMore retail and business opportunitiesMore jobsCafes, butchers, bakeries and local businesses thrivingDiverse employment, diverse investment and industry.

A sealed road from Gomersal to Lyndoch to bring Tourists to the town.
stop 10 storey high Telstra towers ruining the scenery Relatively crime free
Consistent planning regulations that protect the heritage but allow expansion and innovation.
Sport Hub is more suitable for Nuriootpa Warren Reservoir and cylcing and walking connectivity Close to Adelaide - good location A bigger shopping centre with cinema.
Eco environmental hub more suitable to Lyndoch and Williamstown. Play café A regional area providing services of the c
Country style developments not suburban style developments not the 30 year plan
By ensuring the Barossa has the infrastructure and services to make it an attractive place to live for a wide variety of people. Better signage for finding tourism operators Country feel but still close to the city A modern updated Hospital.
Hopefully to enjoy retirement in a few years in a place i have enjoyed living in for many years but will have all needs and help without having to move to another area to be catered for
Encourage business funding to set up a wicked family adventure park to draw in visitors and give kids more options Bike tracks
Better facilities for residents - especially libraries and parks.
Differentiate itself with larger blocks in developments leading to a better lifestyle. Build a new hospital ease of parking in shoping centres Affordable transport for aging
I think physical and social infrastrucutre are important points Improve park facilities Small populations and close communities
Not too much population growth that will spoil the country way of life and take away landscape views
Don't drive - needs help - social connection - Drs spots, or visit people - Transport important Build a dog park A fully equipped hospital like Lyall Mac
Smooth pavements no trip hazards for elderly and disabled people
Public transport infrastructure - trains and buses Public transport linking Barossa to Gawler
new hospital Bull doze ugly modern developments and plant vineyards and native vegetation.
A focus on developing and looking after the Barossa's assets.
Public transport - for aged residents and getting around Improve transport options
No ugly developments - demolish them and don't permit generic type housing
Pathways and walkways important especially for low vision and vision impaired. New hospital Bigger blocks Aged care facilities Public transport options Nothing too big or obnoxious If all running well, makes you happier being here Transport options and footpath issues Public transport
One of the biggest drawbacks of living in the Barossa is having to leave the region so often for everyday tasks. Much more is needed in all towns in terms of services, job opportunities, and retail.
Share the dollars to overcome the run down Council assets
Development of parks and playgrounds that are suitable for all ages
Narrowing and slowing down the main streets to 40kph would make the towns quieter and safer along with more crossing islands which could have further trees planted on them. Historic Gawler Street in Mt Barker is a good example of a nice street
Development of recreational and sporting spaces A dog park
Improving on the bike paths would also be a huge benefit. A track which bypasses Tanunda rather than going down the main street would make commuting between the towns much easier and give more options for weekend rides. Serious effort needs to be put into the bike tracks as the more cars we can get off of the roads the more pleasant the towns will become. More linking roads and sealed roads A community centreBy stopping the Council running the area down in the search for lowering expenditure
More attractions and range of activities for kids A dedicated youth spaceBetter sporting facilities Public transport networks Better footpaths near schools A community owned hospital
More community gardensTransport - tram between Tanunda and Nuri
Quality of roads could be improved - Tanunda main street and outside the Angaston hospital High rise livingUpdate and regenerate the Williamstown Oval including the Netball/Football facilities and infrastructure. Policy of careful development
Better bus service for Gawler and beyondNot taken over by big companies / corporate
Improve the public transport to and from the region and within the region
No huge increases in populatoin that destroys the reason why everyone wants to live here
Fix the rods Public transport
make transport easier to and from Adelaide Concordia developmentMake the main streets of Angaston, Tanunda and Nuriootpa more vibrant and attractive to tourists. Rail service to Nuriootpa
improve facilities in towns centralizing things favors one town over another
Souther Barossa development - high school, sporting hub, preservation, Lake Warren
infrastructure such as roads must be improved to cater for growing motor vehicle population.
Limit growth of the Barossa and stop putting the ugly poorly designed housing developments.
Improve transport and better publicity regarding its availability Transport Transport - Rail services connecting Barossa to Adelaide direct
More recreational facilities for young people
Transport - more regular Barossa Loop bus service including Seppeltsfield and Greenock A new hospital More bike paths connecting all communities in the Barossa No over expansion of any town
Upgrade Nuriootpa pool and include an acquatic playground nearer the train park
Talunga Park as a vibrant stopping area for tourists
Open up the reservoirs for rec use
Continuation of the Amy Gillet Bikeway through to Mt Pleasant and to meet up with other bikeways
Promote and extend our cycling facilities. Southern Barossa Sporting hubMake more lookouts or photo stops Not too much growth Transport - bring back rail transport to Gawler and the city Maintained larger blocks
Better transport Appropriate accommodation for touristsOffices for Centrelink Larger towns with individual facilities

Healthy body healthy mind Personally, I will work to ensure a good primary health care system in the Barossa. Easy access to quality medical and well being services is essential. Better co-ordination of existing services is needed.
A learning community that supports reading, learning, online connections, active aging and a health lifestyle.
I am a business owner in the health and wellbeing field so I think it is important for lifestyle and business quality.
Improved health options Active healthy connected community that works together across the region.
Health and wellbeing is very important Up to date health care
Aged care activities Dementia friendly regionMt P is isolated from opportunites for a health and productive lifestyle - small towns closing down because of generational change - baby boomers are forming the largest population.

Communication and technology is essential for the Barossa to change and develop into a better place. For myself, these areas need improving the most.Health and community facilities provided by the council make the Barossa an enjoyable place to liveRegional Health and Well being for all especially families is so important for Local Government to get right. To focus of smaller areas within your region as well as the major area such as Nuri. Health and wellbeing is paramount and this can be done by addressing the social determinants of health with insightful programmes, targeted and well researched community needs.
I would like to work from my home in Eden Valley but can't because of poor internet availability Access to health and wellbeing facilities with a primary health care focus to help locals keep healthy locally. Also, enhanced and co-ordinated hospital-based care that ensures the maintenance of current levels of service (ie births, surgey etc) keeping accessibility within the barossa. Need better health care.
