Parentzone-Confident Parent, Confident Children.
In developing a greater partnership and support for parents,
Tarwin Valley Primary School is hosting a Parentzone course that
will support parents in understanding how to support their
children as they progress through different stages of childhood.
The course aims to support parents now and in the future so
that their children can develop into confident and resilient young
people. The content will be adjusted to the needs and interests
of the participants.
The course will be held at Tarwin Valley Primary School and
commences on Monday 28th July for 5 sessions between 7pm and
9pm. Please see the attached flyer and if you are interested
please return the RSVP directly to Tarwin Valley Primary School
by Wednesday 23rd July.
There has been a lot of publicity recently about the Foster
Swimming Pool and it's future. We are looking for support to help
keep our pool open and to move forward into the future. We are
inviting interested community members to our AGM on Monday 28th
July @ 7pm. It will be held at the Foster Golf Club and we would love
to see some new faces.
Janelle, Secretary
Foster Swimming Pool
Welcome Back to Term 3! After a few weeks rest I am back on deck for term 3. Thank you
to Kerri Smith for doing such a great job as acting principal and
stepping in at my time of need!
We have another fun-filled term of learning ahead including our
annual concert. This year we are trying something a bit different
and have the Footsteps Dance Company returning to coordinate
this. The theme will be “The Amazing Race” and will include a
variety of dances from different countries around the world. This
complements our whole school geography topic for this term.
Students will be learning and rehearsing the dances every Friday
morning this term. It would be appreciated if lateness could be
avoided and appointments are not made at this time to enable all
students to fully participate.
I would like to wish our budding actors and back stage helpers
good luck for the FAMDA production of Bugsy Malone this
weekend. What a fantastic opportunity to develop self esteem
and confidence. As they say in show biz—break a leg!

Parent Payments
Thank you to everyone who has made
prompt payment at this busy time. It has
been brought to our attention that the
BSB number in some Signmee notes may
have been incorrect. Please note the
correct BSB is 063820. However, this will
change soon as we are changing over to Bendigo Bank.
We will let you know as soon as this happens and give
you the new details. Also, a reminder that if you are
paying online we need your surname as the reference.
We understand that some families may be experiencing
financial hardships and always encourage them to
contact the school to make payment arrangements. Our
staff try to keep the cost of activities to a minimum
and often our Parent’s Club and community sponsorship
help to subsidise these activities. School Council will be
reviewing the parent payment policy and this will be
updated in December.
Bus Reminders
Bus stops have been determined based on safety,
usage DEECD and PTV guidelines. Students should be
using the allocated stops. Failure to do so impacts on
other users and bus drivers. Please ensure students
are waiting at their allocated stop at least 5 minutes
prior to the pick up time. If you are unsure of your
time or pick up/drop off stop/time please contact the
school. A parent should be waiting for a student when
they are dropped off in the afternoon.
Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) If you are in receipt of a Health Care Card or are a
Foster Parent you are eligible for the EMA
allowances. Please contact the office for an
application form. Those who received an EMA
payment in the 1st term need not re-apply.
Applications close 1st August 2014.

Hannah & Jazlynne will be holding a pet photo
competition. If you want to enter bring a photo of
your pet (write your name and the pet’s name on
the back) and a gold coin donation. The judging
will happen on the 26th July and the photos will
be on display in the art/science room. There will
be prizes for the smallest pet, cutest pet and
most unusual pet. There will also be a “people’s
choice award” and each student will get an
opportunity to vote in this category. Prizes will be
presented at assembly next Friday. Certificates
will also be presented to all students who
participate.
Signmees needing attention this week:
Somers Camp: Grade 5/6 only
Special Religious Instruction As there were a very small number of consent forms
returned, we will be unable to continue to provide the
SRI program. I would like to thank Narelle Poletti,
Carol Latham and Ron Smith for their contributions
over the years. They will be coming in to school in the
near future to officially say goodbye to the students.
Working Bees The building and grounds committee will be meeting
soon to organise the Winter working bee on Sunday 3rd
August, from 10.00am, more information to come. Last
year we had a fantastic turn out and got a lot done, now
we need to maintain the great work and do some
pruning and gardening. BYO tools and equipment.
Staff Update Tomorrow Miss Jordan returns from her amazing
European adventure. I know she will have some great
stories to tell and photos to show us. Thank you to Mrs
Vitols for doing a fantastic job in Grade 1/2. We are
pleased to announce that she will be returning later
this term to replace Mrs King when she begins her
family leave. Mrs Banikos is away for two weeks on long
service leave.
Welcome
We would like to welcome the Barlow family to FCDPS.
They have recently moved from Kerang. Warren is in
Prep and has joined Mrs Smith’s class and Grace is in
Grade 3 in Mr Farrell’s class. We hope they settle into
life in “sunny” South Gippsland!
3 way Conferences Mrs Smith and Miss Jordan will be rescheduling their 3
way conferences and notes will go out next week for
students in these grades.
Just a reminder…. Please remember that you can organise a time to speak
to any of our teachers throughout the year if you
would like to. Please do not feel you need to wait for
the 3-Way Conferences if you have any issues or
concerns. The 3-Way Conferences are not for concerns
but for the students to report on their progress and
be empowered to plan future goals.
Trivia Night The PnF is once again holding its Bi-annual Trivia Night.
This year it will be held on Friday 8th August at the Footy
Social Rooms. Tickets are $20 each. This is the major
fundraiser for the year, so please come along and help
raise funds for the school whilst having a fun night. You
can either organise a table 8-10 people or just put your
name down and we will organise a table for you.

Where the Wild Things Are
How Full is Your Bucket? Some of you would’ve noticed the new display in the foyer as you come
into the office. This term we are focusing on being “bucket fillers.” We
are using the story “How Full is Your Bucket?” as a simple way to explain
to students how to look after their mental health and well being and
that of others. There will be a series of lessons that will help support
the understanding of the connection between the droplets in the bucket
and good mental health and well being. These lessons will focus on positive self talk,
being kind to others, recognising feelings etc. Each Monday at assembly one student
from each class will be chosen to be the VIB—Very Important Bucketholder. Their
photo will be displayed on the big whiteboard in the assembly area and their bucket
will be filled with lots of positive messages from other students and staff. These
students will be featured in the newsletter with their photo and their favourite
positive message from the week. On Friday each VIB will be presented with their
droplets at assembly and take home all of their positive messages. This initiative will
replace the Catch em Being Good awards and is an idea that came from the assembly
survey in regards to the old Student of the Week awards. Parents are welcome to
come to Monday’s assembly to see who the lucky VIBs will be for the week and are encouraged to attend Friday’s
assembly when it is their child’s turn. We are very excited about this new initiative and hope it will help build a
strong sense of connectedness and positivity across the school. If you would like more information please click on
the link below to view the story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5R6-2m_qHk
