PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Dear Students & Parents,
I am delighted to have been appointed as the Acting Principal of
Normanhurst West and I am looking forward to getting to know all
of you in the near future. Thank you very much for the warm wel-
come I have been given by so many people. Also, welcome to
our new families who have started here this term.
We are very lucky to have here at Normanhurst West an experi-
enced, caring staff who are committed to ensuring that your child
has a wonderful time at school. I am looking forward to working
closely with them so that each child achieves their true potential.
As you all know, the car park gate is only accessible by the staff
between 8.00am and 4.00 pm. During these times please do not
enter the school via this gate either by car or by foot. It is a very
small area that can get very crowded and we would hate to see
anyone get injured.
I know that the whole school is excited about one of our major
events for the year, possibly the most exciting, happening on
Sunday, 4th November. It is our Family Fun Day where everyone
is invited to come along and enjoy rides, stalls, food, auctions and
raffles with the whole family to raise money to support the school.
A big thank you in advance to the P&C for the huge amount of
work that has gone into making the day happen and to the many
volunteers who will be helping on the day. Special mention to
Michelle Pretyman who has been the organiser and has spent
many hours getting everything in place for what will be another
memorable event.
Good luck also to our bands who will be travelling to the Central
Coast next Thursday to perform at 3 schools and the plaza at The
Entrance to showcase the fantastic musical talents of
Normanhurst West.
Kindy Orientation begins next Tuesday where we will welcome all
of our 2019 Kindergarten students and their families. Our new
students will be attending for two days and parent information
sessions will be held on the first day. I am sure that our current
students are looking forward to them arriving.
Sportspro is back this Term for our K—2 students and I am very
pleased that we use this external provider as they have great
programs and staff and the children always have a lot of fun
during these lessons.
It has been a busy start to the term and it will only get busier.
I hope to meet as many of you as I can on Family Fun Day.
Until next time.
Paul McSweeney, Acting Principal.

Tell Them From Me Survey
Parents and carers (esp. grandparents) are encouraged to complete the Tell Them From Me survey. The survey allows parents/carers to provide important insight into their child's education and school environment. Parents and carers are an important and valued part of our school community. We would appreciate your input and look forward to hearing what you have to say. The school will use survey feedback to make practical improvements and inform future school planning. The survey can be accessed via https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/survey/splash/ Hc9gc
Family Fun Day
Preparations are going well beyond expectation for this year’s Family Fun Day (FFD) held annually at the school. Please set aside Sunday, 4 November to enjoy an entertaining day at our school fair. Teaching children the value of money in a cashless world. It’s so common now to buy things in a few clicks online or with the tap of a card or phone at the shops. And with little eyes watching, it’s no wonder that two in three parents believe that digital/cashless transactions make it difficult for their child to understand the value of money .̂ That’s why we’d like to share a few tips that other parents have found useful to show kids the connection between cash and cashless transactions.
Show kids the cost of ‘tap and pay’. When you tap and pay at the supermarket, ask your kids to guess the total of your purchases (from a few multiple choice options). This can help you reinforce that there’s a dollar amount attached to the simple ‘tap’ action.
Show how clicks impact their savings. It’s important for kids to understand that paying for things online has an impact on their savings balance. They can experience this first hand if they pay you back for small online purchases out of their own savings.
Introduce a digital piggy bank. Consider paying pocket money as a mix of cash and an online transfer. That way children can make the link between coins, notes and online money. As they get older, show them how to check how much money is in their account in the same way they count their coins and notes.
Term 4 update.
Get involved in the School Banking program.
Normanhurst West Public School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School
Banking program to all students.
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about
money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver
account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and
redeem for exciting rewards.
The rewards available during 2018 are:
Twister Power Handball
Secret Scratch Pad – Out of Stock
Sparkle Glitter Pens
Glow Light
Mighty Boom Handball
Heat Reactor Pencils
Slushie Maker Cup
Zoom Flying Disc
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular
Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual
Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School
Banking deposit in the prior year.
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank
Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:
1. Online
Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
2. In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a
driver’s licence and birth certificate.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start
banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School
Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
School Banking day is Friday. Each week you need to hand your completed deposit book at
morning roll call.
If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2018 School Banking
program information pack from the school office or visit
commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
$600 raised through School Banking! Thanks to the fantastic efforts of our
students we have raised $600 for our
school through the School Banking
Contributions Program in terms 1 to 3 this
year. Our school receives a Regular Savers
Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits
processed per student as well as an Annual
Contribution which is based on the number
of students who made at least one School
Banking deposit in the prior year.
Saving regularly is an important habit to get
into, whether you're saving a little or a lot. Keep up the great work and remember, School
Banking day is every Friday.
