Military Saves Week February 22nd-27th
What is Military Saves?
Military Saves, a component of the nonprofit America Saves and a partner of the Department of the Defense’s Financial Readiness Campaign, seeks to motivate, support, and encourage military families to save money, reduce debt, and build wealth. The research-based campaign uses the principles of behavioral economics and social marketing to change behavior. Military Saves encourages all service members, their families, and civilian employees to take the Military Saves pledge and for organizations to promote savings year-round and during Military Saves Week.
Start saving today and take the pledge! www.militarysaves.org

Heart Healthy Month Unhealthy lifestyle choices can contribute to many medical conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes. Therefore, it is important to make healthy lifestyle choices such as healthy eating, active living, healthy BMI (body mass index), and manage your stress. Below are a few tips on how to improve your eating habits to reflect a healthy diet.
To decrease your risk of heart disease, eat a balanced diet of nutrient-dense foods and follow these tips:
1. Make half your plate fruits and vegetables
2. Make at least half of your grains whole grains
3. Switch to fat-free or low fat(1%) milk
4. Choose foods with less sodium
5. Avoid oversized portions
6. Drink water instead of soda or sugary drinks

Recycling at home or school is easy and a great way to make a difference, both locally and globally. By recycling you can decrease the amount of energy and oil used each year to produce new products. Check out the facts and tips below about recycling and what you can do to make a difference!
Recycling Facts: A used aluminum can is recycled and back on the shelf as a new can, in as little
as 60 days. We use over 80,000,000,000 aluminum soda cans each year. Americans use 2,500,000 plastic bottles every hour! More of them are thrown
away! Plastic bags and other plastic garbage thrown into the ocean kill as many as
1,000,000 sea creatures every year! A modern glass bottle would take 4000 years or more to decompose and even
longer if it’s in the landfill. On average, it costs $30 per ton to recycle trash, $50 to send it to the landfill
and $65 to incinerate it.
