The school year has been divided into three trimesters for 2016-2017.For

most offerings this means 11 sessions or less in the trimester. This schedule

has all the information you need about:

Fun and interesting community clubs, classes and sports for all ages!

Ways to register for all Community Learning Center Classes: 1. Go to www.lcmcs.org

Download the “Selection Registration Form” for your appropriate age group. Complete the form and drop off or mail to the school.

2. Go to the Damascus Farmer’s

Market on Thursdays from 3-7PM starting August 18th and visit Beverly or guest teachers at the LCMCS Community Education Booth and catalogs and

“Selection Registration Forms” will be available.

Payments accepted by check, cash or debit/credit card on the website: Go to www.lcmcs.org Click on the PayPal button then CLC Fee button to make payment.

NEW payment option for CLUBS ONLY: Attendance will be taken daily and families will be billed the $7/HR fee on the end of month Trails billing Invoice.

If you desire your child to have a guaranteed spot in the Club you must pre-register them on the Selection Form.

Drop-ins (with parent approval on the selection form) will be welcome if the daily attendance allows. Clubs are indicated in the catalog and have a $7/HR Fee. All other classes and sports have a one -time fee for the trimester and attendance is mandatory; not eligible for drop-ins.

encourage running as a healthy lifestyle.

LCMCS is a member of the North

Clackamas League within the Willamette

River Conference. The season runs from

the start of school with 6 to 7 races and

ends with the MS State Championship at

the end of October. Practice will

officially begin Wednesday, Sept. 7th

after school.

FUN FOLDING ORIGAMI-TRM

ART1 5 CLASSES $35

Elementary & MAC students (3rd to 8th) are invited to come join Eileen

Holzman for this fun folding origami class. Eileen is a veteran art educator;

her bio and work can be found at www.eileenholzman.com. She was

awarded the “Governor’s Award for Excellence in Education”. Students will

be designing and creating 3 dimensional models of Origami. Samples can be

found on the website Origami page.

SCULPTURE-CA

ART2 6 CLASSES $42

Learn sculpture techniques with this exciting new material that Eileen Holzman will be introducing in our first sculpture class! This class is designed for Elememtary and MAC students (5th to 8th). The students will be using a subtractive process with Auto-Clay Aerated cement and creating their own sculpture designs. See the gallery at www.eileenholzman.com.

BEADWORK -TRM

ART3 10 CLASSES $70

Jo Kuntz returns to CLC with her fabulous beadwork class. An avid, twenty year experienced bead worker she is excited to offer a full trimester of beading. Elementary & Mac students (4th to 8th) will learn intricate beading skills and create their own designs of unique jewelry and beaded artifacts! 1:20PM to 2:20PM FRI 9/9 to 12/16 Maximum: 8 students

KNITTING YARN CLASS-CR

ART4 11 SESSIONS $77 All elementary students are invited to continue to learn more basics of knitting with

Darrelyn Karczag, an LCMCS grandparent and veteran knitter. The children will

begin actively knitting the Garter stitch, proceed into Purling & the basic

Stockinette Stitch; then binding naturally follows. Students should bring supplies

they already have from previous classes or home knitting. Suggested supply list:

worsted weight yarn, 1 pair of knitting needles (sizes 6-10). There will be limited

start up equipment provided for those who have need. Students with experience

can choose from library pattern books.

FOR BOYS EYES ONLY CLUB -FBEO

CLUB1 ONGOING NO FEE FBEO is focusing on working with younger elementary boys (1st to 3rd). The first

book will be “The One and Only Stuey Lewis “ by Jane Schoenberg-- So what if

Stuey isn’t the world’s best reader, is only allowed to trick or treat around one

block, doesn’t get to play on his soccer dream team, and has to put up with the

most annoying girl on the planet. Somehow Stuey always makes life work and

when he puts his mind to it, he can survive anything-even second grade!

INTERACTIVE STRATEGIC

GAMES CLUB-TRM

CLUB2 $7/HR

“Games are for learning; a fun and educational combo

we like to do with our friends”, Max Purvis 2015-16 club

member. Come join this ongoing fun and mind-

sharpening club with strategic game instructor Stefan

Dueling. Open to all elementary and MAC Students.

Games will be made available, but you are welcome

(and encouraged) to bring your own to share with the

group –provided they stay away from classrooms and

cubby areas. Games should be brought to Steffan at morning Trails for

safekeeping until game time. POKEMON (AND OTHER TRADING) CARDS AS WELL AS

VIDEO GAMES ARE NOT PERMITTED AT SCHOOL.

Build to your heart’s content at LEGO Club! Doug Carnie is a LCMCS parent

who leads our Elementary students (1st to 6th) into exploration and creative

LEGO building. Doug’s plan this fall is to lead the club members into working

on some group projects in addition to their own creative projects!!

LEGO ROBOTICS CLUB - CR

CLUB4 ONGOING $7/HR

Learn how to program and work with robots in this new expanded LEGO

Robotics class instructed by Doug Carnie. Students will be working with the

school’s robots and being part of other LEGO type events both local and

national to include the big show held annually in Portland! Open to 3rd year

to MAC students (3rd to 8th).Kids can join late if traveling from other places.

DANCE–CR

Come learn with Leticia Vargas

Varela who brings her

experience with the Ballet

Folklorical and International performance to the Damascus/Boring area. This

special dance series of learning folk dance will feature artful choreography

with props to give expression to the message of “conservation of the earth”!

Open to all Elementary students and MAC students (1st to 8thStudents) each

age group will benefit from her tutelage. A special performance is planned

for” Explore Art” on Friday, December 2nd!

Kids Yoga-G

HEA2 9 SESSIONS $63

Join Angela for this new and very special Kid’s Yoga Class for ages 4-8 years old. Angela’s love of movement, yoga, and dance has inspired her to teach kids Yoga. With her classroom experience and passion for Yoga, children will learn many tools to help them grow into healthy, strong individuals. Love and kindness will be the focus of the class; as well as, songs, movement, breathing exercises and stories.

MIND/BODY EXPRESSIVE ARTS FOR GIRLS TRM

HEA 4 6/ 2HR CLASSES $84

Join Manju Jain of Walk’N Talk Coaching for these two hour sessions

available to Elementary and MAC girls (4th-8th)... She brings over 25 five years of

experience and training in psychology, counseling, coaching and expressive

arts facilitation. Her passion is to facilitate women of all ages to create

emotional and physical wellbeing in their lives. This is a series using the

expressive arts method as developed by Natalie Rogers, where girls will use various

art forms to explore and reflect their physical and inner strengths. Through

movement, meditation, creative arts, journaling and discussion, the girls will

empower themselves.

4-H WILDLIFE STEWARD AND PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

HEA5 ONGOING-$30/YR + $5 book

Calling elementary students 3rd through 6th year. to join the

fun at 4-H club. Leader Paul Chambers is pleased to guide

students through learning about, and artfully presenting, the

Environment through their photopgraphy. Some form of

didgital camera is highly recommeded so members can record their

experiences, learn the basics of digital photography and be able to share

pictures and discuss their successes and difficulties. Camera phones are

acceptable. Members will have to provide their own transportation to and

from the meetings at LCMCS. Check-in at school Libray Commons with

Beverly prior to class..

ADULT /SENIOR COMMUNITY CLASSES TRIMESTER 1

HEALTH, FITNESS & RECREATION

SLOW FLOW YOGA-CR

HEA1 10 classes $70/$50 seniors

A great warm-up for the day! Sierra Borschel LCMCS PTO Vice President, 200

HR Yoga teacher and USUI Holy Fire Reiki Master is excited to offer this

morning Yoga class here at the CLC. Participants will learn vitalizing

movements through Yoga postures using the breath as a guide.

Class will include a brief meditation, sun salutations and a variety of

positioning of poses; floor, standing & balancing. Some chanting may be

introduced based on participant interest!

MIND, BODY, SPIRIT SERIES-TRM

HEA2 10 classes $70/$50 seniors

Stress is recognized as an important factor in many health problems. Today

many adults are facing health challenges: heart disease, diabetes, high blood

pressure, high cholesterol to name a few! Participants will learn an array of

natural solutions for stress reduction from these very knowledgeable

facilitators.

1.EAT CARBS?? YES INDEED!!

Learn nutrition golden nuggets in this two week section with Erin Lemon, a

LCMCS parent and Nurse Care Manager for various locations of Adventist

Health. Presently completing a master’s program for nursing education she

brings us a wealth of information on healthy food and the positive outcomes

for healthy weight and prevention of Diabetes and heart disease! You will

learn what carbs and other foods will benefit your health and those carbs

and foods that are determents to optimum health-the best stress reduction!

2. THE BODY ENERGY SYSTEM-WHAT’S THAT?

Find the answer in this three week section instructed by Robert Bassett,

Certified energy and circular breath worker .You will learn about the energy

that flows through all things; including your body! Discussions will

encompass: Where energy/chi comes from? Where does it go? How does it

flow? What are energy blocks? Why they occur and how to help them flow

again! What you discover will help you to reduce stress and muscle aches in

your body.

3. WHATS ALL THE BUZZ ABOUT ESSENTIAL OILS? Discover with Simona

Nedeliski. Her passions for all things from nature lead her to study EO

intensively for four and an half years as a wellness advocate with dỡTerra

Essential Oils. The first week you will learn what is an essential oil is. How it

benefits the human body and general application. In the second week you

will learn some other application techniques for everyday life from the

caring of the home environment to cooking in the kitchen then into the

garden and beyond. It will be simple and practical with lots of good

takeaway information.

4. THE ART OF MEDITATION

In the final three weeks of the series Cece Bockensted a LCMCS teacher

experienced in the art of meditation will facilitate this class about various

meditation methods. Participants will be treated to pod casts from a yoga

center and experience first- hand how meditation can be a benefit for

improved health and stress reduction. Something many ancient societies

discovered thousands of years ago!

HULA DANCE CLASS-CR

HEA3 10 CLASSES $70/$50 Seniors

Enjoy learning Hula dancing with some of the lyrical Hawaiian language and

culture. Kaimana LoBue, an LCMCS parent and experienced Hula dancer

RESTORATIVE & YIN YOGA-CR

Become restored in this combo, candlelight yoga class with Sierra Borschel,

LCMCS PTO Vice President, certified 200 HR Yoga teacher and USUI Holy

Fire Reiki Master. This class is for destressing the body, mind and spirit.

Releasing tension and opening the body through restorative moves using

light twists, sitting folds and gentle back bends! During the Yin period the

poses are held more actively; providing more strength and increases

flexibility! Appropriate for senior with primarily floor postures using props.

LANGUAGE AND BOOK CLUB

SPANISH FOR ADULTS-TRM

Enroll in this comprehensive beginning Spanish class with Suzanne Haddix,

LCMCS parent and Spanish teacher. Great preparation for the next

Trimesters of Spanish for Adults: WINTER-”Conversational Opportunities

Series” and SPRING “Reading Group by Themes” Suzanne’s thoughts on

learning language

We learn language, as children, by playing with hands-on materials

and hearing it spoken

Language learning happens best, accompanied by some movement

An adult learner’s understanding of English grammar rules is an

asset.

When you learn a new language, your brain grows, creating a

language center for the new language, at any age!

This course will include greetings, cognates, colors, numbers,

pleasantries, letter sounds, calendar and helpful life & travel

vocabulary, as well as, grammar!

“BOOK NOOK” CLUB-TRM

LAN2 ONGOING……….. NO FEE

Join this ongoing book club and enjoy in-depth discussions on a variety of

book selections. The club is facilitated by Beverly Bassett, meeting once a

month at the School, on the last Monday with some adjustments

throughout the school year. During winter, spring and

summer breaks the club meets in members’ homes;

dates and locations will be published on the website.

The current book selection is “100 Years of Solitude”,

by Gabriel Garcia Marquenz. Donations for morning

nibbles will be accepted on a rotation basis. Coffee &

tea will be provided! The current members are in process of compiling a list

of book possibilities and welcome input and new members! The first

meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 30th. Call for location. 9:00AM-11AM MON 9/26, 10/24, 11/28, 1/30 2/27, 4/24 & 5/22

PARENTING WORKSHOP SERIES TRM

HME1 6 weeks… $105/$75 seniors

Join Manju Jain of Walk’N Talk Coaching for this unique workshop. She

brings over twenty five years of experience and training in psychology,

counseling, coaching and expressive arts facilitation. This workshop series is

based on the relationship enhanced model developed by Bernard Guerney.

It is a skill based and experiential method including role plays and discussion
