COMMUNITY INVESTING Iroquois Valley has been invesng in farmland communies and young farmers since 2007. The Northeast is integral to Iroquois Valley’s strategy of expanding pastured operaons. The company has farms throughout the region, and has made two investments in Vermont. FARMING PRACTICES Iroquois Valley’s first investment in Vermont was for the Miller Varley family at Strafford Village Farm. They raise grass-fed live- stock on pasture (lamb, cale, heritage pigs, and chickens) and grow produce and flowers for sale on the farm and through their CSA program. Vermont Natural Beef is a sustainable and grass-fed beef opera- on in the Champlain Valley. The Stannards raise their cale on pasture and pracce rotaonal grazing to provide an ideal envi- ronment where the use of hormones or anbiocs is unnecessary. Pastured operaons benefit the soil, ecosystem, and have the ca- pacity to sequester carbon and reverse climate change. HOW WE HELPED The Miller Varleys approached Iroquois Valley to provide mort- gage financing for the farm they found in Vermont aſter relocang from Maryland. The farm was successfully purchased in November 2016. A year later, Iroquois Valley provided mortgage financing for the Stannard Family as they purchased an addional property to expand their business.
