A short story

PreludeI’ve pondered long and hard about

writing opinionated articles based on current events and other tragedies running rampant across the globe. However, after much contemplation, I’ve decided to offer myself and readers a break from the woes of the world and write brief but entertain-ing stories that offer a much needed break from the worries of real life and share historical knowledge of the area in which we live. So, the next however many articles in the Community Connection Magazine will consists of my imagination and what comes with it – at this time, I am involved in researching local history that has me dreaming about cowboys and Indians.

Each article will appear in a cliffhanger format that builds upon one another for the ultimate climax of my imagination which divulges what I think could’ve hap-pened way back when this area of Georgia was nothing but a dense forest full of Native Americans and wild animals. These flash fiction stories will begin around the time of the development of Ringer’s Cross Roads, which my best guess is around 1833, before the area became Temple.

Since this is the prelude before the therapeutic writing sessions, please allow me to indulge a bit of personal information about myself - for those readers who may recognize my picture know that I have lived in this area of Georgia for the majority of my life – about 32 out of 35 years, which makes these stories personal because at some time during my research, I’m going to find from where, why and when my ances-tors came to this area. Are there dark fam-ily secrets hidden deep within history and if so, do I want to know them; but more to

the point, will I share them? I don’t know. But as my family knows, I love to embellish so I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see how the story goes. In all honesty, I love writing and I’m looking for opportunities to make money doing so, and one day, who knows? Which this reminds me of a story I heard one time about a retired grandfather who, at his wife’s funeral admitted to his granddaughter that he had always wanted to be a doctor. The granddaughter asked him why he couldn’t be one now and he told her that he was too old to be a doctor. After she thought about him being too old, she looked at him and said, “What’s the worst that can happen?”

So, in conclusion, a sincere thank you to Wayne, Sherry and everyone at the Com-munity Connection Magazine for allowing me this venue; and thank you to all who take the time from your busy schedules and allow me to entertain you, too.
