REMEMBERING
Between Thanksgiving and Christmas
comes our Remembrance Day. Because of those who fought for us we can celebrate freedom, our way.
Too many lives are lost in wars. I wish all fighting would cease.
We need to look after each other and our planet if we’re to have peace.
If the billions of dollars and energy that is spent on fighting wars
was channeled into saving our planet we would win on many scores.
If all of us strive to live in peace within our local environment,
we will all live long and happy lives well into retirement.
Choose each day to live in peace, not allow conflicts to rule.
Always come from a place of love and live by our Golden Rule.

CEO MESSAGE November 2015
us trips are an important part of recreation offered across KinVillage.
Residents really value the opportunity to go out for leisurely drives,
shopping trips, luncheons, and transportation to church services. These types of outings help them maintain independence, feel a sense of freedom, and
stay connected with the broader community. In addition, although use of the bus by residents is our highest priority, it is also available for use by members and
volunteers associated with Community Centre programs. The new bus will cost approximately $100,000 and we hope to raise one half of this
($50,000) through grants and donations received in 2015. So far, we have confirmed contributions of $33,000. This includes about $15,000 raised through
our giant Book Sale and Grand Lottery earlier in the year, as well as $1,500 contributed by Delta Dance following the Delta Cup competitions held recently at
the KinVillage Community Centre. We are also very grateful to the Delta Community Foundation, for its grant of $10,000 and to local service organizations, TOOB and the Tsawwassen/Boundary Bay Lions Club, who each contributed $2,000.
To date, we have also received personal donations, from residents, members and
staff, totaling approximately $2,500. I know that a lot of people plan to make donations as the end of the calendar year approaches. I also know that we all receive requests for donations from so very many good causes. As someone
connected with KinVillage, who understands the importance of our Mission and appreciates the quality work we do to support older adults live their lives fully, I
hope you’ll consider helping us reach our goal by making a tax deductible donation this year to KinVillage’s “Bus Campaign”. If you, or anyone you know, would like to donate, please feel free to drop off a donation at the Reception areas in any of our
buildings, or mail it to West Court, 5410 10th Avenue, Delta, BC V4M 3X8, or you may wish to donate online via our website at www.kinvillage.org.

One of our goals in 2015 is to replace KinVillage’s 17-year-
old bus. Our current bus is quickly approaching the end of its useful life and is at the point at which continuing
maintenance costs does not make sense economically. In addition, replacing it with a newer model means we’ll be able to accommodate more passengers on the bus, including
those who depend on wheelchairs.

John Lusted Director, Recreation
The Delta Cup DanceSport Gala, held here on Saturday, October 17th , was a big success. George and Wendy Pytlik as well as Roger and Sherry Everett and a host of volunteers did an amazing job putting on this first class competition. Go to our web page for a full story about the event. If anyone is interested in getting involved in either lessons or dances at KinVillage see our Weekly Activities Schedule. The luncheon on Friday, October 23rd was enjoyed by all, thanks to the band Music Variations. They have a huge repertoire and many attending asked if we can get them back again. From 2 to 4 pm on Sunday November 8th the Delta Music Makers are back for their ‘Concert of Remembrance’. Admission is by donation and complimentary refreshments will be served. Hope to see you there. On Tuesday, November 10th, our Remembrance Day pub with the Rockers will be held so that is something to mark on your calendar. Members of the Legion will also be joining us. Admission is $2 for members and $4 for non-members and dessert, tea and coffee will be served. We will, of course, be closed on Wednesday, November 11th. Fraser Health will hold a flu clinic here on Friday, November 6th, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 pm. Don’t forget to bring your Care card and photo ID. If you are volunteering in West Court or South Court you need to get your flu shot by December 1st to continue volunteering in those areas, otherwise you will need to wear a mask. Pictured on the right is a volunteer who really seems to enjoy his time here. Jack is in the midst of building and landscaping a spot for the “trains for all seasons” as he calls it. We look forward to seeing the Christmas version. Have a splendid Month. John

Everyone really enjoyed the music at our luncheon on Friday, October 23rd. Vocalist, Gerry Lumitao, delighted the ladies when he came into the audience to sing to them. They played lots of familiar tunes of Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Elvis and others.
There were three door prizes and we raised enough money to Share the Wealth with two winners of $39.25 each and give $76.50 to KinVillage. We appreciate it.

FRASER HEALTH
FREE FLU CLINIC In the main hall, KinVillage Community Centre
5430 10th Ave., Tsawwassen
9 AM - 11:30 AM FRIDAY NOVEMBER 5TH
The common cold is often mistakenly thought of as 'the flu', but a bout of real influenza can be much more severe," said Denise McKay, a communicable disease nursing co-ordinator for FH. "Seniors and those with chronic health conditions who get influenza can die. Even if they survive they may never fully recover."
According to McKay, "Many people who are at increased risk of severe disease fail to take this easy, safe and free step to protect their own health and the health of those around them. A senior who gets a flu shot is less likely to get so sick they have to be admitted to hospital," McKay said. "Remember, to be protected, you
need to have a flu shot each year."
Our regularly scheduled morning activities
in the main hall will not be held.
