ANC Students Volunteer in Local Community This spring, the Teambuilding/Teamwork class volunteered their time to help the Blytheville Humane Society.
The class collectively volunteered over 40 hours of community service. Check out a few student testimonials
about their experiences!
Brandy Lindsey-
"Volunteering at the Humane Society was fun and eye-opening, meeting and walking the dogs was an
experience. The dogs were so happy to be running around an exploring. Being able to play with the cats and
giving them some companionship even just for a little while, was very rewarding. The workers at the shelter
were also excited to have us there helping. It was a fun and rewarding experience. I'll be back to help again:'
Lacandra Lewis-
"My experience at Orphan Annie's was great. It showed me that people that were less
fortunate could still keep up with the latest fashions, due to the acts of kindness of other people."
Devin Millikan-
"Community Service is something that I honestly didn't think I would ever do. For this being my first time I
found that I actually enjoyed myself. The feeling of both helping my community and working with my
teammates was a wonderful feeling. I've come to realize that community service can be enjoyable, and I
understand the value of working with my team instead of working alone:'
ANC Community Chamber Ensemble Summer European Trip
The ANC Community Chamber Ensemble, accompanied by 21 community supporters, recently
toured Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Ireland from June 29 through July 9. This tour included
concert performances at St. Mary's Cathedral (Edinburgh,Scotland) and St. Nicholas Church (Galway,
Ireland). Director, Dr. Keith Hearnsberger, concertized on the piano and organ during these
performances. The group also traveled to Dublin, Ireland to participate in the Dublin Choral Festival,
which featured over 230 singers from across the United States.
MASH Camp 2017
MASH Camp was held June 12-June 22 at ANC, and was full of exciting adventures over the two-week span. The following students were accepted into the MASH program: Madison Bibbs, Manila-Morgan Russell, Rivercrest-Madison Larrow, Armorel-Lacie Aaron, Blytheville-Haley Sanders, Blytheville-Madison Terrell, Gosnell-Rachel Luttrull, Armorel-Monique Williams, Blytheville KIPP-Brieshuna Buckley.
The camp was full of non-stop activities and exciting fun-filled adventures that ranged from HIPAA training, CPR training, emergency scenario response, Air Evac, diagnostic scenario training, shadowing local hospital and clinics, touring UAMS in Little Rock, going on Adventure Training camp at EACC in Forrest City, team building, social media etiquette, texting and driving, medical terminology, organ donation stories, casting, dissecting and suturing pig hearts, dental radiography and teeth impressions, proper hand washing technique and injection techniques and more. With this diverse exposure to healthcare, students are made aware of the various healthcare career choices.
Many thanks to ANC, ANC Career Coaches, Great River Medical Center, Ascent Specialty Clinic, Dr. Ashley's office, Local Farm Bureau Agencies and the Farm Bureau Foundation, UAMS staff and medical students, and the many wonderful presenters that shared their expertise. MASH Camp would not have been possible without each of these contributors doing their part.
