Congratulations to the students that represented our
school at Expo-Science!
Marshall and Parker and Jared, Liam and Mohamed won
gold. Katelin, Rowyn and McKenzie L., Abbey and
McKenzie C., Kaya and Sunny, Lexi and Julia, Chandler,
Karly, Gabrielle, and Heddya won silver.
Jared, Liam and Mohamed also won the University of
Manitoba Innovator Award, the Manitoba Hydro Energy
and You Award and the WSSF Sustainable Development
Challenge Award.
John S. was successful in his endeavours
to become a Page at the Senate for
2019-2020 and possibly up to 2022! The
competition was fierce but he impressed
the judges with his outstanding personal
and academic skills in both official
languages. His teachers have no doubt
that he will represent them very well.
Little Shop of Horrors is a horror comedy rock musical with music by Alan Menken and lyrics and a book by Howard Ashman. The story takes us to downtown Skid Row and Mushnik’s Flower Shop. We follow Seymour Krelborn, a sweet and insecure floral shop assistant, who is secretly in love with his co-worker Audrey. Audrey, however, is too busy with her dentist boyfriend who tosses her around as he pleases. Suddenly, Seymour stumbles across a new breed of plant that he names “Audrey II”. At first, this plant seems to be exactly what the business needed! Customers are flocking from all over, troubles are disappearing and Seymour is getting noticed. We soon find out that plant food and mineral supplements won’t be enough for Audrey II… the plant is thirsty for BLOOD! Will Seymour give in to the plant’s demands, or will he try to fight it? Collège Churchill and Churchill High School are proud to present its macabre musical from April 30 – May 2, 2019 in the schools’ Senior Gym. Performances run nightly at 7:00 p.m., with the doors open to guests at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the cast and crew of the show for $15 (reserved seating) or $10 for general admission. Warning: Mature language and content
Our Leaders organized a variety of games and divided the school into four teams. Each group was represented by different Mario Kart characters for the gym rally. The students then competed in a friendly competition and the winning team received a pizza party.
Congratulations to team Mario for their win!

there is Math Club in
room 4.
Everyone is welcome!
Change of date:
Graduation will be on June 24, 2019 at the Bethel Mennonite Church at 6:30 p.m. The dinner will be held on June 26, 2019 at the RBC Convention Centre.
We have, for the first time in recent memory,
formed a MYRCA (Manitoba Young Readers
Choice Awards) club, which will meet every
Day 1 at lunch in Mr. Wiens' room. MYRCA puts
together lists of novels for young readers that
are discussed and studied in a book club kind of
setting. This year, we bought approximately 25
copies of selections from their "Northern
Lights" list, intended for Grades 7-9
students. For information on the novels, see
http://www.myrca.ca/2018-myrca-
nominees/. Participants from around the
province will ultimately vote for a winner from
among this year's selections. Contact
Mr. Wiens at [email protected] if you have any
questions.
SAFE ARRIVAL Dear Parents/Guardians, At Winnipeg School Division, one of our greatest priorities is ensuring that all our students arrive safely at school each and every day. To enhance our existing absence-checking procedure, we are introducing a new, more efficient student absence reporting system called SafeArrival. This new system will reduce the time it takes to verify student attendance, make it easy for you to report your child’s absence and easy for staff to respond to unexplained student absences. With SafeArrival, you are asked to report your child’s absence in advance using any of these 3 convenient methods: 1. Using your mobile device, download and install the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store
or the Google Play Store (or from the links at https://go.schoolmessenger.ca). The first time you use the app, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.
2. Use the SafeArrival website, https://go.schoolmessenger.ca. The first time you use the website, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.
3. Call the toll-free number 1-855-278-4513 to report an absence using the automated phone system. These options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Future absences can be reported at any time. Please report absences in advance using SafeArrival instead of sending notes or calling/emailing the school. Staff will be using the SafeArrival notifications to let you know if your student is absent (when you haven’t reported the absence in advance). If you have children attending other schools, please continue to report absences using the existing procedures for those schools. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we implement this new system.
Attendance
The strongest indicator of a student’s academic success is their attendance. Regular attendance and arrival on time is the responsibility of every student and their parents/guardians.
Attendance is taken at the beginning of each class. If a student will be absent from school please enter their absence on SafeArrival as soon as possible.
Please note extended absences interfere with a student’s progress
therefore; it is the student’s responsibility to check with teachers about
missed work and to hand in assignments.
