Preface

The 8th edition of the Information and Communication Technologies Conference ofEcuador (TICEC 2020) took place in Guayaquil, Ecuador, during November 25–27,2020, in virtual mode, at the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (UPS) headquarters.TICEC is one of the most important conferences in Ecuador since it brings togetherresearchers, educators, professionals, and students from different parts of the world forthe dissemination of results and research activities regarding the development, prob-lems, and forecasts of the use of information and communications technologies(ICT) in multiple fields of application. The UPS and the Corporación Ecuatoriana parael Desarrollo de la Investigación y la Academia (CEDIA) jointly organized the event.

According to the research area, the conference included more than 40 presentationsdistributed in the event’s sessions.

The content of this volume has been divided into the following areas:

• Biomedical Sensors and Wearables Systems• Data Science• ICT’s Applications• Industry 4.0• Smart Cities• Software Development• Technology and Environment

The 8th edition of TICEC received 117 manuscripts from 355 authors from 15countries. Only 85 articles passed the control of the maximum percentage of similaritywith previous works, which were reviewed by peers by the TICEC 2020 ProgramCommittee, which consisted of 96 highly experienced researchers from 29 countries. To ensure a high-quality and careful review process, we assigned at least threereviewers to each article. Based on the peer-review results, 36 full articles and 7 shortarticles were accepted, representing an acceptance rate of 37.6%.
