In July, we were able to promote two significant achievements: the CCG’s outstanding CQC rating and the successful bid for additional mental health funding for the city. We also highlighted the success of our member GP practices, 100% of whom were rated as good or outstanding by the CQC, and additional funding for a unique therapy project that supports the city’s homeless people. Continuing the celebratory theme, the communications team was recognised with a double nomination in the 2019 CIPR (Chartered Institution Public Relations) Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Awards. To coincide with the summer holidays, we issued guidance relating to asthma and inhalers, seasonal health tips and the importance of planning ahead for trips and the bank holiday. We also issued back to school health advice to parents and students, particularly underlining the importance of immunisations.

July

This post celebrating the CCG’s annual assessment rating of outstanding was July’s most engaging post. Reaching just under 1,500 people and garnering 214 engagements, the post proved to be one of Facebook’s most engaged organic posts of the past few months.

Interest in the CCG’s CQC rating and in the annual general meeting, which also took place in July, helps explain the marked increase in web traffic during the month.

Campaigns Age Proud – we are supporting the city’s first ‘age proud’ anti-ageism campaign, which will launch on the International Day of Older People on 1 October. Seriously Resistant – our latest campaign to help tackle antimicrobial resistance launched in July and August, with a number of appearances at the city’s Breeze events, engaging families with young children through games and fun quizzes. The campaign has also been adopted by Sunderland and South Tyneside CCGs, who also ran summer events. Summer health campaign – we ran a summer health campaign, including an event in Leeds City centre on 31 July that featured quizzes and health tips shared on social media. The main focus was highlighting the risks posed by dehydration throughout the year and not just over summer. Conferences and events We supported preparations for the CCG’s AGM in July. The team is also currently organising the CCG’s annual staff conference and staff awards, which take place in November Publications In July, we published the CCG annual review, which is a visual summary of our performance aimed at the general public.

We also started work on the autumn edition of Engage magazine. Partnership communications FGM – we have worked with NHS and third sector colleagues to launch Leeds’ female genital mutilation clinic

Leeds GP Confederation – we continue to provide communications and engagement support for the Confederation, including partner updates, publications, social media and the ongoing development of the website - https://www.leedsgpconfederation.org.uk We are also providing communication support for the citywide digital partnerships team.

Developing mental health services for Harrogate, Wetherby and the surrounding areas – we are supporting an engagement by Tees, Esk and Wear Valley (TEWV) NHS Foundation Trust on developing community mental health services for Harrogate, Wetherby and the surrounding areas. Working with Voluntary Action Leeds to engage with people in the Wetherby area, we have developed, publicised and distributed a survey and organized drop in sessions. So far, 316 people have been engaged with on this work, either at a drop-in, via the survey or via ‘on-street’ engagement. British Sign Language in primary care – we are continuing to support primary care to develop a service specification for BSL services. As part of this work we’re holding an event on 2 October to collect the views of people who need to use existing services to see what works well, what could be improved and what we can learn from other services. The Patient Assurance Group (PAG) met to discuss cancer care support engagement. CCG volunteers continue to support a number of areas of work, including eight commissioning projects. We support them through regular mentoring. In August, we launched our second round of recruitment for new volunteers to join the programme. Procurement – we are supporting the procurement of a provider for The Light GP practice and for the direct payments support service. Patient participation groups (PPGs)

Three working groups have been established and meet regularly to focus on a number of areas, including PPG email addresses, awareness and promotion of PPGs and the annual PPG event.

The PPG network met twice in July and August with updates on working groups, the future direction of the network, General Practice awards and peer support.

As part of our regular visits to support PPGs to champion the voice of the wider community, we visited Grange Medical Centre in August.

We are collecting feedback from all GP practices that received money from the CCG in July 2018 as part of the PPG funding scheme. The feedback is being collated into a report, which will be published in the autumn.

Urgent treatment centre engagement – we published the independent analysis of the feedback we received from over 3,200 people on our proposals to set up five urgent treatment centres in the city. We’re holding an event on 27 September giving people a chance to find out what the next steps are and how they can continue to stay involved in the work we’re doing.

Age Proud – Leeds’ first anti-ageism campaign launches on 1 October, the International Day of Older People. Big Leeds Chat – we are developing guidance for local groups to support the event which takes place on 7 November at Kirkgate Market. The Big Leeds Chat is a new way of listening to people in Leeds. It brings together the most senior decision makers in health and care, working together as one health and care team to talk to the people of Leeds about what matters to them. This year we’ll also be running ‘mini Big Leeds Chats’ in local communities as well as the main event in the centre of Leeds. CCG volunteers - we are hoping to recruit seven new volunteers in September to join our existing team of eight bringing us up to 15 in total. We will then host our induction and training day for volunteers in October. Engagement Hub – after completing an evaluation of our training programme, we will deliver a number of core training sessions over the coming months. Feel better – we will be finalising our student wellbeing campaign, which will launch in November. The campaign includes a range of resources aimed at encouraging self-care and local pharmacies for help and advice on common health problems. It will also look at how students can look after their mental health and wellbeing during exams in January 20202. Seriously Resistant – in the autumn, the focus will be on raising awareness among over 65s and parents and carers of young children, as we take our campaign to community and children’s centres around Leeds. Looking out for your neighbours – our campaign that encourages a positive social movement to get people to keep any eye out for the most vulnerable people in their communities will run again over winter. We’re currently considering the next steps for the campaign and using seasonal messages to cover issues that could affect people over the winter months. Patient participation groups conference – on 9 October, we will be hosting the next PPG event, which will build on the work done in the previous two years and enable people to learn, share good practice and network. We will also be continuing our regular PPG visits to support them and their practice with engagement activities and holding our regular network meetings. Population health management conference – we are working with Leeds City Council to host a national conference taking place in Leeds in September to demonstrate the progress we’ve made in the city on population health management. We’ll highlight how we’ve been using data insights to make improvements in health and wellbeing today and how we’ll use this to support the health of local people, including predicting the support systems we’ll need to have in place. World Mental Health Day (WMHD) – we will be supporting WMHD on 10 October by sharing national as well as local campaign messages, particularly focusing on crisis services for children and young people, Calm Harm app and perinatal mental health.
