The following reflective piece was written in order to attempt to show a brief moment in the life of a young, mute girl who, although autistic, is able to think rationally and intelligently whilst not being in complete control of her body. The story intends to show the audience the level of despair that autism can bring to a child afflicted with the condition and also hints at the effects which the child’s condition has on her parent’s actions and feelings. This piece was intended for: Children Over age thirteen And Adults interested in the topic of autism This piece can be of great use to children over age thirteen as their minds are sufficiently developed at that age to be able to pick up on all the subtle hints in the story and interpret them in a logical manner. The piece can also help to the children how miserable the life of an autistic child can become in a very short period of time. For the adult audience, this piece delivers a less conventional depiction of autism that will attract their interest as they attempt to decipher the purpose of the piece’s dark undertone and its relationship to the psychological effects of thecondition.
