MANAGEMENT, ADVERTISING & CREATIVE PROGRAMS - 2012

In your hands, dear students, more than in ours, will rest the final success or failure of your course. Since this

institute was founded, each set of students has contributed to make NiA what it is today. Their success stands testimony to the quality, in their laurels you will

shine.

There are multiple challenges ahead – not just in your studies but in the civic life that surrounds you. Once you

complete the program and go forth in a career, you too will face a struggle against the common enemies of man:

tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself.

Will you unite against these enemies to emerge as a strong and global community that can assure a more fruitful life

for all mankind? Will you join in a social effort to become a stronger society?

In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its

hour of maximum danger. Let us not shirk from this responsibility - welcome it. The energy, the faith, the

devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it - and the glow from that fire

can truly light the world.

Ask not what your country will do for you, but what together we can do for our country.

Democracy is not just about an individual's rights, it is about each individual's rights. Freedom is not about some of us being more free than others but for each one to be

free. Secularism is not just my right to practice my religion but for each one's right to do so.

Let us change our own self from this day onwards and practice a modern, democratic, free and secular life.

Welcome to NiA

Inspired by the Inaugural Address of JFK, January 20th, 1961

Mission Statement

On behalf of Nia, I look forward to meeting you all in person – and can assure you of an unique and enriching experience with us.

NiA classes will be held at 9, Institutional Area, Lodhi Road from the sessions in 2012.

Our endeavor to provide contemporary education and training to young entrants on the threshold of a career continues as we complete an exciting and eventful sixteen years.

Advertising industry is the best kept secret – the fact that it is Advertisers that control the business of Media, Events and Public Relations escapes most people. Advertising agencies offer great careers and a chance to cross over to the corporate side at all times and levels. It is also great fun working in Advertising as insiders will tell you. Yes the hours are tough, starting salaries are low but so it is in Consulting, Medicine, Accounting and in Law!

Some of the world’s most successful people work in Advertising or have emerged out of it, as well as it has given refuge to those that did not do well anywhere else in the world but sparkled in this industry.

There is a 1500+ and counting strong NiA alumni out there working and leading the industry at various levels, some of them right at the top. In the past sixteen years, we have received a tremendous amount of support from people in the advertising and media business, and on behalf of all of us at NiA, I thank them sincerely.

Welcome toNational Institute of Advertising.

One, the courseware is designed to keep in mind the industry requirements. Regular reviews keep the curricula in step with the changes that make this environment so dynamic.

Two, the regular faculty itself comprises working professionals. Unlike elsewhere, they do not show up once-in-a-while.

Three, it is essentially the result of first two points, our students end up getting good breaks in nice places.

But the nicest of all reasons, to me personally, is that most of our students keep in touch and drop-by often, even much after they pass out.

The IXP Objective: Learning through Context - To develop outstanding leaders that will make a difference in the world demands a business education and perspective that is both practical and far-reaching. NBS's International Experience program (IXP) maximizes participant-centered learning experiences by integrating the school's distinctive case method of teaching with field-based learning activities that integrate first and second-year students during a semester break.

The cornerstone of the IXP is the expertise of faculty leaders who develop program content around key teaching objectives reached through global field-based learning activities.

An IXP typically is comprised of a three-part learning experience:

* Pre-departure activities to introduce and prepare students for the IXP

* An intensive multi-day Industry Experience during the break that may combine travel, meetings, and student projects

* A post-program opportunity for sharing lessons learned with the wider NBS and Industry communities

The IXP Difference: Not a Trek - The IXP differs from the NBS Career Treks in several important ways. First and foremost, faculty leaders develop program content and lead each IXP. Second, faculty leaders' educational objectives shape IXP itineraries and activities. Third, faculty leaders commit to the pedagogy of experiential learning, meaning that the IXP aims to go beyond creating educated tourists, thereby facilitating the transmission of key ideas in managerial practice through learning activities. Fourth is the related commitment to help students learn by completing work projects and then sharing their experiences with the wider NBS community.

For the class of 2011-13, NBS is pleased to offer the following IXPs:

* London: Financial Management in challenging times

* Oxford: International Trade Practices relearned

* New York: Meeting the emerging new world order

* China: Understanding a Business Environment

* Europe: Europe Divided? The Economic Geography of Business

* India: Incredible India - New Opportunities and New Challenges

* Israel: The Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital "Miracle"

* Brazil: Business Opportunities in Emerging Markets

Note: For select students only – on additional costs or industry scholarships

When you reach for the stars you may not quite get one, but you won't come up with a handful of mud either.

NiA requested its alumni to help mentor the batch MCM of 2009-10 and got an excellent response. 22 alumni from various batches volunteered for the program and were duly assigned two to three freshmen. Each one in turn was contact by the protégés and a bond was formed. The alumni counseled these students on matters of career options, choices to make, success rates, the way forward etc. including how to prepare for the chosen career ahead.

NiA management is grateful to the following mentors for the valuable inputs and for making it a successful mentorship program. Interested alumni may contact [email protected] to volunteer for program 2011-12. The program has been assigned for the year 2010-11 already. Mentor Certificates have been delivered for 2009-10. In particular, Ms. Mukta Kapoor, alumnus NiA, permanent volunteer and Corporate Head - Marketing, Old World Hospitality receives a special 'thank you' certificate though she is not a part of the mentors formal program.

Protégé speak:

I think Utpal sir was really friendly, encouraging and forthcoming. I am really grateful for the advice received.

Tanya ma’m is vivaciously friendly and helpful. I called her all the time and she was really patient with me.

Vikram Pareek sir is very serious minded but also very helpful and comes up with great insights.

My mentor took me out for coffee and meals – she is so senior in the industry - I was at first a little shy, but later I realized she did it to build my confidence.

My mentor sent me so many event invites.

I saw five Hollywood movie premiers with my mentor. Thank you NiA. I am so spoilt now.

Mr. Yashaswi Bhatt is so cute – he is a great guy and I am glad I have a friend in my mentor.
