Katie Greenan3AnecdoteA short, personal story
Example:
In addition to being a full-time student, I am an esthetician and I give facial treatments to clients and advise them on makeup and skin and hair care. I cannot diagnose a problem, but I can offer advise to my clients. For example, I noticed a lesion on a clients cheek one day, so I advised her to see a dermatologist. A few months later, I received a letter from her thanking me for the advice. The lesion on her face was precancerous, and she had it removed immediately. In this speech, I will discuss the importance of wearing sunscreen everyday. Former Student

question

Rhetorical Question does not elicit a response from the audience, requires your audience to ponder
Direct Question elicits an immediate response from your audience to gain feedback
Example
How many of you schedule a yearly physical examination? My eating habits used to be poor frozen food that could be heated in the microwave like hot pockets, pizza rolls, and frozen burritos. However, that changed a couple of years ago after I received a physical exam. My tests indicated that my blood pressure and cholesterol were sky high. My doctor told me that I needed to change my life style immediately. That scared me, so I changed my eating habits and started exercising five days a week. It is importance to get an annual physical examination. - Former Student
