The Long Island Single Sailor’s Association .. Our 32nd Year Dedicated to Sailing and Boating Vol. 32 No. 4 April 2019 God Bless America Commodores Corner Howard Marks Our Semi Annual Meeting at the Moose Lodge is now on Sunday, June 9 th . Originally scheduled for May 5 th , the meeting has been moved to Sunday, June 9 th because a large group wanted to book the room. And so, in def- erence to the community at large, and to that of the Moose Lodge, we have moved our relatively small group to June 9 th . Please make a note of this. If you want to see a very funny play, then buy your tickets to the 8:00 PM show of Whos Wife Is It Anyway”, at the Bay Way Arts Center in E Islip. But make it a complete evening and join the LISSA crowd at Jackson Hall. Please call Terry Schumann to make your reservations for dinner. See you there. (See flyer for details) There is no Social this month. This is be- cause of the usual reason; to save money. Our socials in the past several years, as Im sure you know, or should know, have lost money. It makes no financial sense to schedule an activity that loses money consistently. However, we still need socials. To that end, next month, we have scheduled a Crazy Hat Social for Thursday, May 16 th . Weve done this before with great success. And so, we recommend you fire up your creative juices and wear your creation on your head. You may, of course, wear any kind of hat you want. Lets get into the spirit of the evening. A good theme might be a combination of Spring, nautical adventure and love. 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd place prizes will be awarded. (See Flyer) This months Birthday Babies Dinner will be at the Jon Thomas Inne, on Tuesday, April 23 rd at 6:30 PM. The cost is $28.00 and will include Tax & Tip. Its a good deal and folks have always had a good time and a good meal at this place. Please call George Fuchs to make your reserva- tion, by April 19 th . Our LISSA NEW events have been very light for the past several years. We need NEW events to remain interesting and fun. Even the best of things get old. So, Im going to make a suggestion. MUSIC. For the past 15 years or so, Ive been enjoying the local music community here on Long Island. Ive been to a variety of res- taurants, pubs, churches, coffeehouses and li- braries to listen to some really great music of all genresrock, blues, folk, classical, opera. Its what I like to do mostaside from sailing. I fol- low a vibrant community and a very talented one, with quality players whove been in the business for years. Most of you, Im sure, can name a great band or two youve enjoyed. You can prob- ably find a hundred places here on Long Island, almost any night of the week, which have good music, well worth your time and dollar. I follow all genres. SoWhat Id like to do is suggest one or two musical events each month. Id also like to entertain suggestions from our LISSA members as well. Send me the info in an email, with all the details as Ive listed below, and well put it in the Coming About. Call or email me. Give me your music event. Let me get the musical ball rolling: Jess Klein, at the Starlight Coffeehouse, Friday, April 12 th , 7:30 PM, St. Pauls United Methodist Church, 270 Main Street, Northport. $15.00 ad- vanced tickets - $20 at the door. For tickets heres the link: www.northportarts.org/starlight- coffeehouse. (Scroll down and find the Buy Nowbutton.) Or, you can Google Starlight Cof- feehouse and find it that way. There, youll find show dates and videos. This coffeehouse is one of the best. See you all – Out There!!

The St. Patrick’s Day Social was a success. Everyone donned their best “green” and heard and danced to Irish and dance music played by DJ Rick. A good time was had by all. Thanks to Kathyann Peccia and Peter Aiello for hosting the birthday babies at Mary’s restaurant. Good food and good company. Good job.
