Club Newsletter
AUGUST 2019
Written by Donna Fenwick – Club Captain
Ahoy there!!
Well another calendar year for the fishing club has been and gone. The
Annual General Meeting was held, so once again the new season starts!
This saw more changes to the running of the ship. This year we have had A
LOT of members of the committee resign. This will give the opportunity
for new members to have a go with new ideas. We said goodbye to Ali
Holmes, Kim Hayes, Craig Hayes, Warren Hayes, Dave Yule, Brian Pocock
and Ben Coulson who dedicated many years to the committee. It is
without this level of support from these guys the club wouldn’t run so
smoothly. So THANK YOU IMMENSELY from the Committee and all the members of the Ngawi Sports
Fishing Club for all your time and dedication you have given to the Club over the years.
Now down to fishing business
First and foremost, subscription fees are now due. There is a new membership form in this newsletter.
Please take your time and fill in all the required information neatly, so Alison can read it. Remember
to include your email address so we can endeavour to save some more trees and postage! The new
membership packs won’t be sent out for 2 weeks as we have to wait for the new stickers and
calendars to be printed.
Secondly: - first very important date for September
14th September Ngawi Club Day Also if there are any other keen helpers on Club Days who could lend a hand either in the morning to
help with making of afternoon tea or in the caravan in the afternoon or even if you could spare 10
minutes after we have had afternoon tea please come and see us at the caravan in the morning of the
Club Day to liaise the time and place, or you can phone or text me on 027 642 9432.
We still have T-Shirts from our last two years Big 3 for sale. We have a lot of T-Shirts left so it would be
great to get rid of a few more. These will be available on Club Days otherwise just let me know if you
would like one or two or maybe three...
Tractor Roster
Would any of our Club Members like to go on the tractor roster? It would be greatly
appreciated, as it lightens the load for the rest of the committee.
All it requires is two hours, either in the morning launching or in the afternoon
retrieving on any one club day throughout the year.
You can choose if it is morning or afternoon that you would like to do and which club day that
suits you. You can either email or give me a text. That would be very much appreciated.
Thank you to those who have already offered their services. I would like to take
this opportunity to all of those loyal members in advance who offer their
services year after year - thanks to you all.

AGM NEWS It was good to catch up with everyone at the AGM. If you missed the AGM your trophy is at the Clubrooms for collection, there is quite a few to be collected. WELL DONE TO ALL OUR TROPHY WINNERS. I would like to thank all of the hard working committee that put in endless hours behind the scenes. It was a lovely day to be out and about and enjoying the sunshine and indulging in our Delectable Afternoon tea. Without a dedicated team we wouldn’t have such a great fishing club. It was a relatively short AGM Our committee for this coming year is President – Yvonne Ker, Vice President – Joel Milne, Secretary – Alison Pirimona, Treasurer – Julie Weber, Club Captain – Donna Fenwick, Committee – Ben Allen, John Allen, Peter Brunton, Brian Dennes, Gavin Fenwick, Tony Kelly, Kate McGregor, Brent Oliver, Duane Pirimona, Garth Price, Gareth Sweeney and Robert Yule. Thank You. Congratulations and welcome to the Committee. I know we are going to have a very productive year, especially catching fish! An exciting outcome for the response that we got from our members about having a “Back Up” Day, hopefully we end up with more than 2 club days for the year. Here are some of the items that were discussed:- Subs:- All subscriptions have REMAINED the same this year. Single Membership $60.00 plus $10 sub for Cape Palliser Marine Radio Family Membership $90.00 plus $10 sub for Cape Palliser Marine Radio Tractor Fee $120.00
It is going to be the skipper’s responsibility to fill out the CPMRA form that we will forward onto them on your behalf. So remember, when you have completed your membership form also return the COMPLETED CPMRA.
Joke Time …
One day, two guys Frank and Bob were out fishing.
A funeral service passes over the bridge they’re fishing by, and Bob takes his hat and puts it over his heart. He does this until the funeral service passes by.
Frank then said, “Gee Bob, I didn’t know you had it in you!”
Bob then replies, “It’s the least I could do. After all, I was married to her for 30 years.”
COMMITTEE NEWS
At our recent Committee meeting on Wednesday 14th August we agreed to continue with the measuring of Blue Cod and Tarakihi. This is a very positive way to continue with sustainability. Please remember to check the length – Blue Cod must be over 38mm and Tarakihi must be over 35mm. Fish under those lengths will not be weighed.
New Comers and Kids Day…
Last year, we looked at ways of improving Ladies and Kids Day. Last year we had two ladies and 5 children that fished. We felt that we weren’t actually achieving what the day was originally dedicated for. So we came up with a new title “New Comers and Kids Day”. This day is designed for non-fisher people who don’t belong to any fishing club to go out fishing for the day. The only stipulation is that the Skipper must belong to our Club and this will not be a Club Day just a fun day for Newbies. Details of the Species will be available on the Day.
Back Up Days (B/U Day)
In our latest Club Calendar we have included back up days for every club day this coming year.
There are changes to launching on scheduled club days and changes for back up days. Please read carefully. Launching on club days will be 7-9.00am except in May/June when it will
be 8 – 10am. (If you are going to be late please text/phone)
Retrieving will be 2 – 4pm [Outside these times, members will have to organise
their own launching and retrieving], on back up days retrieving will be 1-3pm.
Weigh Ins: Scheduled days: 3-4pm unless advised otherwise on the day. Back Up days 2-3pm.
Presentation and food on scheduled days will be at 5.30pm, on back-up days it will be at
4.30pm.
Also on Club Days:- Please if you are waiting to be launched – help the tractor driver by unhooking the boat trailer that
is already on the tractor and hooking your boat ready to be launched. Skippers must nominate someone on their boat to hook up next trailer to eliminate the tractor driver having to get into and out of the tractor – it saves a lot of time for everyone (Help the tractor driver by unhooking your boat and hooking the next trailer up. This will help the wait time and the drivers don’t have to get out of the tractor so many times)
When coming back into the Bay for retrieving – please – radio in your trailer number as well as your boat name
Remember when you weigh fish in that have a legal size the head and tail must be intact
When you come to the weigh station to weigh your fish please advise us the boat you are fishing on as we need to keep our computer records accurate every club day and competition
Radio Channels are 4, 6 and 7 (if you don’t get a response try another channel)

NGAWI SPORTS FISHING CLUB
Just an important thing to remember
If there are any problems with the tractors, please give Gavin or Donna a ring at Ngawi and the issue can be sorted. It makes it impossible for others to use the Tractors when they don’t go and the right people aren’t informed!!
Joke Time…
Three fishermen were fishing when they came upon a mermaid, the mermaid offered them one wish each so the first fisherman said: “double my I.Q” so the mermaid did it and to his surprise, he started reciting Shakespeare.
Then the second fisherman said: “triple my I.Q.” and sure enough the mermaid did it and amazingly he started doing math problems he didn’t know existed.
The third fisherman was so impressed he asked the mermaid to quadruple his I.Q and the mermaid said “Are you sure about this? It will change your whole life!”
The fisherman said “yes” so the mermaid turned him into a woman …
