MESSAGE FROM YOUR EXALTED RULER Hello Members,
Well I'm back from the grand Lodge convention in
Houston Texas. The convention itself is put on in
grand scale. I met a lot of really nice Elks from all
over the country. Most are facing the same
challenges all lodges face like retaining or growing
membership and reducing expenses while trying to
increase revenue to help keep the lodge doors
open. There were several proposed resolutions voted
on and passed. They mostly affected Grand Lodge
with little or no impact at the local lodge level. The
list of resolutions will be posted on the member
bulletin board. One of the great things I had the
distinct honor of doing was being up on stage to
present the Raymond Benjamin plaque to the
winning ritual team. Here is a photo of me
presenting the plaque.
Until next month, see you around the lodge.
Fraternally, Lindsay Wanagel, Exalted Ruler

Hello to All!
I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful summer we are having this year. That is why we love living in Napa Valley! Our State Vice President, Sandy Gowan, had her visitation here at our Lodge on July 15th. It was very well attended by the District and our own Lodge members. Everyone enjoyed the evening. We are looking forward to our District Deputy, Byron Pierson's visit on August 17th. We hope to have a lot of members attend this event as well.
On July 20th, we initiated a new member, Robert Peck. Please welcome him and his wife Molly to the Lodge.
Hot August Sunday is coming up on August 7th. This will be a fun event with the car show, chili cook-off, and lots of other fun events. Please plan on attending and we also need volunteers for many different areas. Let Sandy Silveira or myself know if you would be willing to help in some way. Another event coming up is our District Jamboree to be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 19, 20 & 21st. This year the Jamboree is going to be held at the Petaluma Lodge. I will post the information regarding the Jamboree on the bulletin board in the Members room.
As always, please let me know if you have any concerns or suggestions. I am usually at the Lodge during the day. Also, as everyone can see our new roof is being installed right now. No more buckets this winter!!
Fraternally, Judy Fisher, Secretary

Activities Report August 2016
HAPPY SUMMER
Burgers and Bocce: On 6/29/16 we had an excellent turnout for Burgers and Bocce. Many thanks going to our
chefs Dave, Len and Mike. The burgers, potato salad and cookies were delicious. The evening weather was
perfect for enjoying our patio and playing Bocce, and we had some exciting games going on, there were even a
few people playing shuffleboard. Congrats to the winners. We will have another Burgers and Bocce on August
31st. Friday Night BBQ: I would like to mention that some of our Friday Night BBQ folks are also enjoying
the summer weather and have gathered together after the BBQ for Bocce, Horseshoes and Pool. It is always
nice to see our members and guests enjoying the lodge. Thanks to Dave Harms for hosting one of our busiest!
VP Visit and Dinner: Sandy Gowan our new State Vice President and her husband Dan visited our lodge on
July 15, 2016. We were also pleased to welcome many members and officers from the Great Northwest District
to this meeting and dinner. Sandy Gowan along with our ER Lindsay Wanagel conducted an informative
meeting prior to dinner. Dinner was a summer strawberry salad followed by a surf and turf entree, many thanks
to our chef and kitchen staff. Sandy ended the evening with her thoughts and good wishes for our lodge and
district for this coming year. ER Lindsay Wanagel presented Sandy with a check from #832 for ENF.
Event Change: Due to illness we are cancelling the Spanish Dinner night. We will try and reschedule this
dinner later in the year. We will replace this event with Burgers and Bocce.
Thank You: The McFarland's for the VP visit centerpieces, also the Haslet's, Betty Sollow and Dave for helping
with the Chili Kits.

Biography for Byron Pierson
Byron was born April 11, 1958 in Lakeport CA. Lived in Potter Valley, CA until he
was 4. From there he moved throughout CA until he ended in Sparks, NV where he
graduated Sparks High School in 1976.
Byron joined the Air Force after High School. He was in the security police field and
stationed in Las Vegas, NV until he was discharged in 1980. After the Air Force he
was visiting his dad who was in construction. His dad needed some help on a job and
asked Byron to come out and help. When Byron got that first pay check he was
hooked. He has since been in the construction field and has traveled to different
states and throughout CA. He has worked for R-E Corporation out of Santa Rosa for
26 years. After 26 years the company closed and he went to work for Novavine from
Santa Rosa.
Byron has 4 children, 3 sons and 1 daughter and 5 granddaughters and a grandson on
the way. His youngest son is a member of the Vacaville Elks and is the youngest
member Vacaville has. Byron’s step dad was a member of the Pittsburg Lodge in
Kansas. Byron’s hobbies include dirt bike riding, paintball, camping and fishing.
Byron joined the Fairfield Elks Lodge in 1996 where he became a Leading Knight. He held that office for two years
before he moved to Reno for work. When he came back from Reno he became active again and again held the office of
Leading Knight. Finally he became Exalted Ruler in 2002-2003 and 2003-2004. In 2006-2007 he was once again Exalted
Ruler and that year Fairfield lodge merged with Vacaville lodge. He has held the offices of Loyal Knight, Chaplin, Inner
Guard, Trustee and Esquire when he became All State Esquire in ritual for the Vacaville Lodge. In 2010-2011 he became
Exalted Ruler for the Vacaville Lodge (in case you weren’t counting that is 4 times). He was the Association Vice
President for the “Great” Northwest District in 2012-2013. He has been the National Foundation Chairman at both lodge
and district level. Piggy Bank Chairman at lodge level. Elks Training Chairman at lodge and district level. Ritual District
Chairman and Elks Fraternal Chairman for the district. He has a passion for the ritual and hope it does not get lost in time.
