AUGUST IN REVIEWEnfoque Politico with Marilys Llanos Interview
Commissioner Bovo was recently interviewed by Marilys Llanos, host of EnfoquePolitico on Telemundo 51, regarding his support for services such as Uber and Lyft.The Commissioner reiterated his support for creating a classification under the "For-Hire" Vehicles chapter in the County Code to allow companies such as Uber and Lyftto operate in Miami-Dade County. The Commissioner stated that he believes thatthese services can complement our current as well as future Miami-Dade Transitservices by providing residents an option once they arrive at their final Metrorail orMetrobus station. Mayor's Transit Meeting
Following the trip to Denver Mayor Carlos Gimenez called a meeting to discuss whathad been seen in Denver and what were the next steps in Miami-Dade County toaddress the transportation problem. Commissioner Bovo stated in the meeting thatDenver reiterated the need to place PTP monies back to what was its initial purposeand to restore the trust with the community.
2015 Gus Machado Ford Backpack Giveaway
This year Commissioner Bovo partnered with Gus Machado Ford in Hialeah toprovide over 200 backpacks to school children in our community. Also present at theevent was the Office of State Senator Rene Garcia, the Office of StateRepresentative Bryan Avila, the Miami-Dade County Police Department, Sedano's,AT&T, and the American Cancer Society.

Commissioner Bovo in partnership with Miami-Dade Transit hosted a GoldenPassport Registration Event at Goodlet Senior Center in Hialeah. Also present at theevent was the Elections Department updating residents voter registration andoffering information on the newly redrawn precints. Denver Transit SystemTrip
Commissioner Bovo along with Mayor Carlos Gimenez, and Chairman JeanMonestime traveled to Denver to see how Denver has expanded their transit systemby nearly 120 miles. Denver has a similar half penny sales tax and has been able tocombine those monies along with state or federal grants to construct a massivetransit system. Commissioner Bovo remains committed to redirecting the PTP (halfpenny sales tax) for its initial purpose of constructing and expanding our currenttransit system. Commissioner made this statement regarding Denver to the MiamiHerald, ""The most important take-away from Denver is how they made acommitment to the voters, and they are delivering." AmericaTeve regarding his proposed East/West Commuter Rail Line. The rail lineruns along SR 836 (Dolphin Expressway) from the Miami International AirportMetrorail Station to approximately SW 137 Avenue. The line would serve the heavilycongested areas of Doral, Sweetwater, Westchester, and SR 836.
