A Slice of Latin America

Welcome to the Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc.’s 15th Annual A Slice of Latin America Gala – my first as leader of this wonderful, and essential, organization. I am so pleased you could join me tonight to celebrate our partnerships, our constituents, and our familia.
We are proud of our impact and responsiveness to the changing needs of the communities we serve – communities which shift grow each year. According to the most recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates, there are roughly 54 million Hispanics living in the U.S. That’s about 17 percent of the entire population. In New York State, we make up 18.4 percent; and in New York City, almost 30 percent!
CHCF reaches more than 10,000 people each year through coalition building with respected experts, advocates, and academics in the field of early childhood and bilingual education. By reinforcing the efficacy of more than 400 Spanish-speaking family child care providers as educators and small business owners, CHCF, by extension, reaches more than 3,000 children and their families. By collaborating with like-minded partners to increase resources and creating meaningful connections between providers and parents, CHCF is moving the sector forward.
The hallmark of CHCF’s programming is culturally competent, bilingual and bicultural staff which truly understands the communities in which we work. CHCF’s youth development programs rely on meaningful partnerships with dedicated school leaders. Last year, CHCF impacted the lives of nearly 2,000 children and families by fostering deeper engagement in K-12 schools.
These, and many others, are the reasons why I am so honored to be a part of CHCF – its legacy and its future. Thank you for joining us tonight, and for your support and contributions. Please know that your time, funding, and support are making a difference in the lives of many.
Sincerely,
Grace Bonilla
President & CEO

Dear Friends and Guests,
Thank you for joining us at our 15th Annual Slice of Latin America Gala. This year marks a significant transition for The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc. Our founder and longtime President Elba Montalvo announced her retirement
at the end of 2014; and she officially handed the torch to her successor, Grace Bonilla, this past January.
The Board of Directors is extremely pleased with its selection of Grace as our new president and CEO. She has hit the ground running, demonstrating strong leadership. Grace has met key stakeholders in CHCF’s work, from funders to community partners, cementing partnerships and forging new relationships.
With Grace now at the helm, the Board is looking forward to formulating a new strategic plan focused on leveraging our key programs as well as exploring new programs that address the early childhood and bilingual educational needs of thousands of Hispanic children throughout New York City.
Your presence here tonight is testimony to your continued interest and commitment to CHCF’s mission. Your investment in CHCF enables us to proudly reach the thousands of children and families we serve.
Tonight is a celebration of your support. So, please, enjoy yourself. Celebrate the flavors and sounds of Latin America. We thank you for your investment and look forward to your continued involvement in our work.

New York, NY 10038 Dear Colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that I congratulate The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families (“CHCF”) on the occasion of its 15th Annual Gala. The CHCF’s exemplary and unique efforts in educating and advocating for Latinos in addition to strengthening the voice of the Latino community by creating an initiative that helps bring quality early care and education to more than 2,000 children and families each year is outstanding.
I am proud to know that CHCF is located within my district, but even prouder of CHCF’s support of the Latino community and Latino families in need. During its years, CHCF has grown and showed ideal commitment to preserving and celebrating the Latino culture in addition to its dedication in helping thousands of families in aspects such as cultural awareness trainings, bilingual child care resources, and youth development opportunities. While the needs of people have not waned, many organizations providing socioeconomic and cultural advocacy have not withstood the test of time—I am grateful that CHCF has. Congratulations and thank you. Warm regards,
