We encourage as many parents and students who would like to volunteer to help in any capacity, to come forward and add their name to the roster by con- tacting Mr. Hicks. From the Assistant Principal When the College Open day was held earlier this term, the boys who gave up their time on the Sunday were

promised an afternoon ‘Early Break’ from School. This gratitude of thanks from the College will be extended to all those students on Friday July 4th. The students involved will depart from school at the start of lunch-time (1.30pm). All students involved will need to check with their Year Coordinators to ensure their name is listed for early departure. A letter regarding this will be sent home early next week.

On April 30th this year a number of students performed at the ACER Arena in the Patrician Brothers’ Bicentenary

Concert. As a token of appreciation, each student has been given a DVD of the concert. In addition the Patri-cian Brothers and the School have arranged an outing to Luna Park for the cast members on Thursday 3rd July. This is the second Last day of Term. A letter of permission will be sent home regarding this outing.

The Semester 1 exam block has now been completed. The completion of these exams does not mean that Teaching and

Learning for this term has finished for your sons. Teachers have started or are starting new topics that will be assessed throughout Terms 3 and 4, so it is important that all students remain focused.

The Year 9 and 10 Parent Teacher night is fast approaching. This will be conducted on Tuesday 1st July. It is most

important that you attend this evening to collect your sons’ Semester One report but also to meet with teachers to discuss your sons’ progress. Next week your son will receive a Parent Teacher interview-booking sheet to allow you the parents the opportunity to book interview times with the teaching staff. This is a very busy evening for teachers so parents will need to book a time.

Important Dates 1st July – Year 9 and 10 Parent and Teacher Interview Evening. Reports will distributed on this night 23rd July – Term 3 Starts years 7-12 30th July – Year 7 and 8 Parent and Teacher Interview Evening. est single mobilisation of young people (aged 16-35) in the world. The week culminates in the Final Mass celebrated by the Pope on the last day (the actual World Youth Day) which is the largest event of the week. POSITIVE FEEDBACK To Whom It May Concern, I am a regular commuter on the L20 bus service that runs from Parramatta to the City. I wanted to commend the handful of students from your college that also use this bus service. They are always polite, quiet, in full uniform, respectful of others and always offer their seats to paying commuters. There are many students from other schools who also use this service and your boys are a cut above them when it comes to behaviour and appearance. These boys are a real credit to their families and your college. Congratulations. Many thanks for your time. Elizabeth Caulfield Commercial Sales Support Targus Australia

Cross Contention Not Enough to Stop Barrelling Blacktown

Holy Cross dominated Blacktown in the 1st 40 minutes, but possession cost the boys dearly in the 2nd half. Josh Thompson reporting From the kickoff it looked all Blacktown. Cross fumbled the kick off and gave the visitors the scrum feed 5 metres from the line. The resultant play netted Blacktown the 4 points; converted into 6 from the side line. The boys dug deep with Woodsy showing the way with a gutsy line break which the lads later converted into a 4 pointer with some slick, wide spread passing. We suspect that Golding left his kicking boots at home as he was un-able to secure the other 2 points from the side line leaving us at 6-4. The attempted kick off from Blacktown was perfect for HCC as it sailed out on the full. The boys had the ensuing penalty from the halfway. The lads used the first set to great advantage when five-eighth Politoni found himself planting another 4 pointer in the near corner of the park. The Score only made it to 8-6; Golding still hadn’t found his kicking boots, narrowly missing the extras. The Fullback may have had the wrong boots on but that didn’t stop him saving tries by tossing front rowers over the side line. Ronzel showed his skills with the ball and linked in with centre, Michael Craig, who dived over in the cor-ner for another HCC 4 pointer. The wide out conversion attempt was guided over the black dot by new kicker Chris Glover; HCC taking control at 14-6. The defence dug deep as we approached the end of the half, despite a knock on from HCC at the 10 metre line; Glover managed to get himself between the ball and the turf to prevent the try. The ensuing knock-on by the Black-town halfback relieved the pressure for the boys to close out the half on top. Despite the ‘rev-up’ at half time from Coach Tim White, the 2nd half didn’t go to plan. Michael Craig courageously led the charge going in for the first tackle of the half only to get an eyeful of a Black-town fist. The eye massage left the centre needing some needle work to patch him back together. HCC defence in the middle of the park showed great poise as an impressive effort from the likes of the young centre, Brooks, and the front and back rowers, Woods and Mizzi, stopped the visitors from gaining yardage. The winger, Foged, also showed impressive skills with solid tackles on the outside, however applause is in order for the likes of the half-back Glover as he intercepted a loose pass and pinned the ears back, try line in sight. He was cut down short of the line by good defence. The 2nd half possession favoured Blacktown, which determined the match as 22 out of 26 sets allowed them to pile on 30 points. With the huge effort required from HCC, the boys were tiring. This stretched our edge defence, pun-ishing the wings. The lads fought hard all game but, understandably, 15% of possession is nowhere near enough to win a ball game. Coach Tim White, clearly less than ecstatic with the outcome saying “We should have won. Next time we will”.

Semi Final time with a very disrupted preparation. HCC V St Doms The game started well with both teams sounding each other out. St Doms put a lot of pressure on the HCC tryline but the team only cracked once and that was a very long range effort from the St Doms fullback. The Cross boys stayed in the game with committed defence and strong attacking play. Half time had HCC 10 St Doms 4. The second half started very well for the cross boys and the score went out to 20 to 4. At this point the St Doms boys started to play a bit smarter and used their strength out wide; they came back with 4 tries and converted three of them to win 26-20 in the last 10 sec. The cross boys worked very hard for the entire game. Best players: 3 points Seo Tatola 2 points Ola Moana 1 point Jason Camroux I would like to thank the boys for the way they have played throughout the year and the effort they have put in at the training sessions and games. We now need to refocus on the Balmain knockout. Mr K Rugg Coach
