1. A maximum of six academic years.
2. the duration of no more than two recognised courses of
study
Where a student formally de-registers from his first course of study on
or before 31st October of the first academic year, that period of
registration shall not be counted . (note this applies to first course only)

Cognate CoursesWhere a student, having successfully completed an undergraduate course at a
particular level, progresses from that level to a cognate course at a higher level,
he shall be considered as studying the same course provided the higher level
course shall be at a level not higher that Level 8. This applies only to
undergraduate courses which include both an ab initio honours primary degree
and one obtained on the ladder system in an Institute of Technology following the
Higher Certificate, plus Ordinary Degree, plus honours degree model (2+1+1).

Elite entry.Elite entry is defined as scheme that offers concession points or entry to elite
athletes or is outside the traditional entry system
Students who gain entry by such a scheme shall compete for up to a maximum of
four academic years.
A maximum number of three eligible first-year (fresher) students (per code) who
have gained elite entry may play in Comhairle Ardoideachais Freshers
Competitions per college
A maximum number of six students (per code)who have gained elite entry may
play in a Comhairle Ardoideachais Senior Competition fixture per college
A maximum number of three students from any academic year class who have
gained elite entry may play in a Comhairle Ardoideachais Senior competition game
per college.

A student repeating all or part of an academic year must apply to An
Coiste Feidhmiúcháin on the official CA Permission to Play form, before
31 October of that academic year.
Examination-only students may not play.
The permission to play form must be accompanied with documentation
from his college to verify his academic status (ie stating that he is a full
time repeat and the number of credits being repeated.)
You may only receive permission to play as a repeat for a maximum of
one year only.

A student may only play Freshers in the first year that he attends college.
The student must be aged under 21 on 1st September of that academic year
A student who has previously commenced a post-second level education course at
another College may only play freshers if
1. He transfers College as a result of a successful appeal against Leaving Cert.
results; or
2. He de-registered from his first college before 31 October of his first academic
year without having played in any CA competition.
If he de-registers from his first college before 31 October without having played in
any CA competitions, but registers at a second college within that first academic
year, he may then be deemed eligible.
For all of the above cases permission must be applied for on the permission to play form & the player may not play until permission is granted.

Cognate Courses are courses which are related to each other.
Example:

Can postgraduate courses be considered cognate?
No.Postgraduate courses (courses at level 9 or higher) are not
considered cognate for the purposes of eligibility. They count
as a separate course and as such are subject to the two
course rule.

A college has a scheme which allows elite entry for Gaelic
players who do not meet the points required under the CAO
system. 12 first year students who meet all other Fresher's
requirements are accepted by the college under the scheme.
Can all of these students play freshers?
No. Only 3 eligible Fresher Students on such a scheme may
play in CA fresher competitions per code. If a student on such a
scheme is a dual player only two others may play per code.

players who do not meet the points required under the CAO
system. There are 12 non-First year students studying in the
