NUCLEAR ENERGY IN ITALY: LOOKING INTO THE ISSUE
By nuclear energy we mean all thosephenomen which lead to a production ofenergy through transformations of the atomic nucleus.
Nuclear energy, together with renewable and fossil sources is a primary fource of energy, that is
it’s present in mature and doesn’t derire from the transformation of
other forms of energy.

THE ATTITUDE TOWARDS NUCLEAR ENERGY IS:
IN EUROPE THERE ARE 18 CONTRIES WHICH PRODUCE
NUCLEAR ENERGY; THE MAIN PRODUCER ARE:
1. France with 59 nuclear power plants (85% of total energy).
2.Russia with 31 nuclear power plants (19% of total energy).
3.Great Britaign with 19 nuclear power plants (9% of total energy).
4. Germany with 17 nuclear power plants ( 32% of total energy.
* The country which relies most on nuclear energy is Belgium: 91% of its energy requirements comes from nuclear energy with only 7 nuclear power plants.
PAST & FUTURE
IL NUCLEARE IN ITALIA
Has you have seen in the previous picture, in the pastthere were nuclear powerplants in Italy. They weredismentted. 1990, after a referendum following the Cernobyl tragic accident.
A STEP BACK
THE ITALIAN GOVERNMENT IS CURRENTLY EXAMINING THE
POSSIBILITY TO RE-OPEN NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS ON ITS TERRITORY
IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE “20-20-20” TREATY, IT REPRESENTS ANOTHER
SOURCE OF NON- RENEWABLE ENERGY THAT ADDED TO OIL WITH COVER THE
REMAINING 80%
PROS CONS
1. Italy buys nuclear energy from its neighbouring countries such as France and Switzerland. If any accident should occur, we would suffer damage too.
2. This kind of energy would be employed together with renewable sources.
3. No CO2 emissions unlike other non-renewable sources.
a. Hig costs (about 10 billion needed for each nuclear power plants).
b. The money spent on nuclear power plants could be employed to develop other renewable sources.
c. The problem of nuclear waste: highly dangerous and difficoult disposal.
“It’s a project which could change the future prospects in the production of energy for the future generations.”( Cit. S.B)
I really don’t know. It’s an important turning pont which must be planned carefully to the last detail.
It could lead to good prospects and at the moment we can’t realy only on renewable
sources.
