Float Matters
Float dues are $45.00 and should be paid to Karen Horn. Float dues cover some party costs, parade day luncheon, a tip for float driver, mailings, booklet costs, and other miscellaneous items. We hope to avoid having to “nickel and dime” you to death. If you want someone to ride in your spot, the guest rider will be expected to pay $200 to the float member, unless the float member makes other arrangements with the guest. The krewe suggests that you buy 144 dozen/ 12 gross of beads/stuffed animals/swords/wands, etc. to throw. You should, however, be your own judge of that, taking into consideration how many family members and people you know who are attending the parade. You will also need the large hooks from Lowe’s or Home Depot to hang your beads from. They are the type from which you can hang bicycles in your carport/garage. There are usually holes that are already in the float that can be used but we will have a drill just in case.
Traditions Our float has a tradition of dropping off beads to be loaded onto a truck or trailer the night before the parade. The beads will be taken to the float the next day and placed at each member’s riding spot. Members will go to the float and hang their own beads. Beads should be loaded in bags or anything that you will want to carry off with you – no cardboard boxes are allowed at the float site. Our night before function is called the “Wine Down” and it is our opportunity to get the party started. We also have a parade day luncheon where we keep the party going! Members can wear or bring their costumes and get dressed at our luncheon location before heading down to the float.
