majority of therestofthe clientelehere,hecomesacrossasclassierandmoreprofessional until heopenshisgoddamn

mouth,thatis.But it wontbe until later thatthislittlepieceofironysinksin. Rightnow Iamclenchingmy teethandattemptingtooffer thisasshismoneyback,anythingjusttoget himoutofhere.

that I would do anything to not know

Because you see, reality and I

And it might just look a whole lot like

a disappearing act.

just by living in the moment with refusal built for two.

There is something about refusal,like a tangible difference maker that

you know all too well to let go.

have always been too quick to go on believing

can make something of worth.

AnimalTrainPrematureInciner

ation

Animal Train is a female fronted fourpiece band out of Austin Texas, we hadthe pleasure of interviewing them in2010 on a previous release and theirnew EP hit just in time for our zine to

cover it. The band has gone through alotof musical evolution in the past fewyears, and for a project that startedaround 2007, they have every right to.Its not that the sound isnt punk. Itsvery punk. It just seems like the tempois slowed down to an almost street punkfeel on the newest release compared tothe old school fast HC inspired tracksoff of Commercial Suicide.

Thats not a bad thing. The sing a longs are in theright spots. The chorus jumps at the right time, andthere is a good portion of it that still has that

breakneck speed tempo that I personally love. And intrue AT style, the whole song EP clocks in way under 15

minutes leaving the longest song only 2 mins long.

One thing I have always enjoyed about AT is their lyri-cal content. CJ is a great voice and her words are notsmothered in allegories or poetic meanings. Combine this

with the catchy riffs on Enemy in The Mirror (whichcould easily be a single) Fight or The Great Tax Cutand you got gold.

Hell, we like them so much you can score a free trackoff the EP on our downloadable comp in this issue.

One thing is for certain, the band has been around foryears, and they dont look like they are slowing down.If you are an Austin-ite, keep an eye out for them live,you may have already seen them, and if you are local,

dont be surprised if they get added to a lineup soon.

Last month, the viral news on socialmedia was the Ban Bossy campaign spearheaded by LEAN INand the Girl Scouts, telling people that when a girl is calledbossy she is sent a message to not raise her hand or speak up,

and that by middle school girls are less interested in leadingthan boys.

Now Im not wasting precious zine space here to talk politics(because it quickly got turned into an issue) or even genderroles, because quite honestly I have to tell you that in ourshow, the Bitter Girl does just as much if not more leading thanthisOld Man. No Im using this space because as a zine, and a

movement in DIY lifestyles I believe that good leadership isimportant.

Good leadership is so important, not only do we need to usebossy more often, we need to make it harder for everyone to be aleader.

This is the thing no one is talking about with this campaign:Being a leader is hard work. It sucks. A real leader often has to

make real life decisions for everyone that is not popular. And,if those choices fail, it is the leader that often has to takethe blame for it. It is the leader that we hold responsible foranything if something goes wrong.

When people quit a job, 90% of the time it is because of theirboss. Bad boss stories are so common, it is hard to determinewhich ones are real, but that proves my point that no matterwhat, it is your boss, or your leader that is carrying the weightof your dislike.

Growing up, I was always told what to do, what not to do, whatshould be done. It was natural for me to rebel because it wasin my mental state to do so, but not everyone has that spark.Often, my classmates were the same robotic kids that followed alldirections and never questioned anything. Thats ne. Im surethat somewhere, these kids who have grown up are all leading goodquality lives, but I got to tell you, I never saw any of themas a leader. And the people I did know who grew up to aspire todo great things all broke this mold. They werent necessarilyartists or musicians, but they were people I know on a personallevel who did the things they needed to do to succeed, tried newthings and did it despite the consequences.

Thats the gist of it. We need strong leaders. We need themto have a tough skin. We need people who are going to be trueto their vision they set out to do. So if someone gets theirfeelings hurt over being called a descriptive word like bossyall I can say is that when you are a leader, you will be called

worse. If someone would rather be liked than respected, then letthem go be liked, but keep them away from manning the ship. Itseems the popular thing to do these days is to start some sortof campaign to ban something to prove how we are going to makethe world a better place. Ironically, these women of power whoare spearheading this campaign should talk more about how theyovercame odds despite what they were called, but I doubt that

would get very many facebook likes.

seemedlikeasmartthingtotrytocoverespeciallyifitwasinourownbackyard.
