EducationEducation of staff and tenants regarding their roles in creating safe communities

Community StandardsEmbracing 5 main standards of behaviour which promote successful tenancies and includes progressive intervention strategies that address and support individuals requirements to live in TCH successfully

Local Safety PlanningLocal safety staff working with communities to assist tenants and key stakeholders to identify key safety issues. Together they develop and implement strategies that will address priority issues.

Strengthening Partnership with Toronto Police Servi cesBuild and maintain solid partnerships with TPS at both Corporate and Divisional levels and protocols in place for sharing information and planning around mutual issues of concerns

Desired Outcomes for 2012• Community standards & tenancy management commonly used as

an effective tool for promoting safety in communities• Staff and tenants are more comfortable reporting criminal and anti-

social behaviour• Tenants advocate for themselves and draw on the resources of the

police and social service agencies to address ASB;• More local groups formed to strategize around safety issues• More partnerships with local police divisions, community agencies,

and other community partners• Resources better aligned at the local level to address the specific

safety priorities • Safety will be one of two key focus areas for Participatory Budgeting

in 2012, allowing tenants to identify solutions to safety priorities in their communities.

How Will We Know We’ve Been Successful?

• Creation of quarterly occurrence reports on anti-social activity

• Increase in the number of reported anti-social cases in Standards sites

• 70% of all assigned cases documented, followed up and closed

• 70% of all complainants acknowledged• Standards complaints addressed within 15

days

Measuring success……• Tri-management teams operational• 5 training sessions for staff on the Community Safety Strategy • 6 Sessions held for tenants • Staff and tenants increasingly aware of their roles in promoting safety• Integrated teams operating in all OUs addressing anti-social behavior• Tenancy Management framework finalized and implemented • Safety Plans developed in identified communities• Customized Training sessions completed for tenants in the 12 Phase 1

Community Standards communities • Site safety assessments completed twice annually (March and September)• Redeployment of safety resources will be completed based on

recommendations. • Quarterly corporate level TPS-TCH meetings occur with joint action plans in

place• Local meetings with police are held in each OU at least three times per year
